This three-year English Language BA Honours degree encourages you to explore the English language in all its diversity – past and present, national and international, offline and online.

You'll investigate how English has developed over time and how it's used to mark regional, social and stylistic distinctions. You will learn from subject experts, world-leading researchers in English Language and Linguistics. You will:

• Study how English has evolved over time, how it is acquired, and how it develops in the mind
• Examine the grammatical structures and sound systems of different varieties of English
• Explore how historical, social and other contexts impact variation in English
• Learn different methodologies for studying the use and complexities of English

This research master's includes taught and research-based elements. You'll focus in-depth on one aspect of German studies such as culture, literature and language from medieval to modern times.

Our research staff work in diverse fields. This ranges from sociocultural, historical and political studies to film and literature, linguistics and sociolinguistics.

This degree follow the same programme as our Environmental Sciences BSc Honours degree but includes a year's work placement.

Topics cover a wide range of subjects, from plant biology and ecology, to sustainability and environmental law.

Biology and geography are an important part of this degree, to help you to understand the processes within ecosystems and how we can manage our natural resources effectively.

You will also study chemistry, physics and geology as applied to the study of the environment.
