The ‘Flying Start’ degree is a collaboration between Newcastle University, PwC and ICAEW. It is the most established degree of its kind. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements in PwC’s Audit practice. You'll progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy qualification, the ACA.

This will help you towards hopefully receiving a full-time graduate offer with PwC. You could be a fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant just over a year after graduation - a true flying start.

This four-year degree focuses on developing both your business and language skills, so you graduate ready for a fast-paced career in a global and complex business environment.

You'll gain core business skills, in human resource management, finance and strategy. Language proficiency is integral to this degree and you can choose from Chinese, French, German or Spanish.

During the third year of your degree, you'll be studying or working abroad, giving you the opportunity to improve your language skills, while also experiencing another culture.

You'll leave University as a proficient linguist, equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience needed for a management career in international, multinational, or global organisations.

Develop your knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering with the opportunity to specialise in mechanical engineering, mechatronics or material streams.

Our Mechanical Engineering MSc programme is for graduates in:

The Mechanical Engineering master's has three specialist streams to suit your individual needs, background and career aspirations.

Mechanical stream:
You'll:

• Develop essential skills and understanding of the design of mechanical power transmissions
• Gain an understanding of modern energy storage and handling systems including the advantages and limitations of such systems
• Identify and evaluate design for human systems integration
• Apply mechanical principles to a range of:
  • Drive systems
  • Assemblies and components with particular reference to transport applications

This programme follows the same programme as our Marine Technology with Naval Architecture BEng Honours degree. It focuses on developing skills across all aspects of the design and operation of ships and other large floating structures. You'll gain a broad engineering education. This equips you with key engineering skills engineers apply to industry-specific problems. This accredited degree also provides a direct route to Chartered Engineer status.

You'll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in advanced topics of naval architecture during your third and fourth year. You'll specialise in a field that interests you. This enables you to graduate in your chosen specialism tailored to your career of choice. Specialisms include:

• Offshore engineering, including offshore design, marine structures, and offshore engineering
• Small craft technology, including small craft design, marine structures and small craft hydrodynamics)

In Year 4 you'll develop your technical and professional-standard skills. This will be through a final group design project.

We work with industry so your studies reflect the challenges engineers face in the real world. You'll have hands-on practical learning and optional industry placements. They give you the opportunity to put your theory into practice. You'll gain invaluable experience in the sector.

We ensure your practical, professional and academic skills develop through:

You will learn about the design and development of dependable software systems.

Explore different aspects of computing science – such as games design, bioinformatics, and security – in your first two years.

Spend a year on an accredited, paid industrial placement between Stages 2 and 3.

Study specialist modules in Stage 3 – such as cryptographies and software verification technology – to develop skills and knowledge for your chosen career.

Security and Resilience
Graduates of our degrees in Security and Resilience will have particular knowledge and skills related to the development of dependable software systems.

Armed with knowledge of issues such as security mechanisms for computing, software verification techniques and tools, cryptography, and cryptographic protocols, you will be well placed for employment in technical positions in software houses and with companies designing and deploying dependable software in safety-critical industry sectors.

This rewarding four-year degree follows the same study programme as our Music BA Honours degree, but includes an integrated year studying abroad in Europe, Australia or North or South America.

MA Sociology and Social Research is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as a route for potential PhD funding in sociology at Newcastle.
