Get a flying start and accelerate your progress towards being an ICAEW Chartered Accountant by putting classroom theory into commercial practice, with integrated paid work placements.

The ‘Flying Start’ degree is a collaboration between Newcastle University, PwC and ICAEW. It is the most established degree of its kind. It combines academic study and integrated paid professional work placements in PwC’s Audit practice. You'll progress towards the ICAEW Chartered Accountancy qualification, the ACA.

This will help you towards hopefully receiving a full-time graduate offer with PwC. You could be a fully qualified ICAEW Chartered Accountant just over a year after graduation - a true flying start.

Our three-year Journalism, Media and Culture degree focuses on developing your writing, production and communication skills across a range of platforms. You'll be well prepared for a career in a fast-changing media environment as a proactive journalist or media professional.

This hands-on degree programme ensures you develop the practical skills critical in multimedia journalism, as well as an in-depth academic knowledge across all aspects of journalism and media theory.

You'll master the ability to write, produce, and edit both audio and video content for a variety of media.

Your knowledge of the issues and debates in media and cultural studies will be supplemented with a thorough grounding in cultural studies, journalism history, media law and political communications.

You'll become a highly skilled media professional with an in-depth and critical understanding of the roles media and culture play in our society, ready for an exciting career working in journalism and media.

Our Classics and Ancient History master's builds and expands on your previous studies. You can specialise in either classics or ancient history.

The course is primarily designed for students who have studied ancient history, classics or classical studies as their first degree.

The highly flexible master's in Classics and Ancient History offers you the opportunity to study a wide range of topics. These topics reflect the research specialisms of our staff in:

• Archaeology including Byzantine studies

Classics and ancient history at Newcastle has a long and distinguished reputation for its research and teaching. We've taught Latin and Greek since 1874, ancient history since 1910, and classical archaeology since 1931.

You can choose to study one of two pathways: Classics or Ancient History.

If you're interested in classics, you'll study literatures, languages and cultures of Ancient Greece and Rome at an advanced level.

If you specialise in ancient history, you'll focus on the histories, societies and cultures of:

• Archaic and Classical Greece
• Rome
• The wider Mediterranean world

You'll develop your own research interests and professional skills.

Cyber Security is a dynamic area of computing science. It's about understanding:

• How the features and vulnerabilities of a system can be exploited by attackers
• How to detect, prevent and respond to these attackers

Cyber Security is also a process, requiring input from and interaction with end-users, stakeholders, decision-makers or system designers.

The MSc Cyber Security is designed for honours graduates in computing science, or a discipline with a significant computing component, for example:

• engineering
• systems engineering
• mathematics

You should have a good background in computer systems, including programming. We also value relevant industrial computing experience and transferable skills.

This practical speech and language therapy course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council. It is accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

On completion of the programme, you'll have an in-depth understanding of the causes, symptomatology and consequences of the range of human communication disorders. You'll also develop the clinical skills necessary for effective intervention practice.

You'll gain a thorough awareness of relevant legislation, statutory codes and policy affecting speech and language therapy practice.

You need to be able to identify with NHS values as stated in the NHS constitution.

You will develop the skills and knowledge required to develop computer game software and you will gain an international perspective on advancements in computer game development.

Explore different aspects of computing science – such as games design, bioinformatics, and security – in your first two years.

You'll spend a year on an accredited, paid industrial placement between Stages 2 and 3.

Study specialist modules in Stage 3, such as gaming simulations and computer games development.

Take modules from our MSc degree in Computer Game Engineering in Stage 4 to develop a deep understanding of game engineering.

About Game Engineering
Our degrees in Game Engineering focus on the design, development and implementation of software that drives computer games (rather than the artistic element of games development).

They enable you to design, develop and implement computer graphics software and applications on a variety of architectures including games consoles, graphic workstations and advanced 3D reality environments.

They also allow you to exploit such software and hardware in entertainment, engineering, design and scientific visualisation.

The North East of England is a hub for games development, making it an exciting place to kick-start your career in the industry.

Our master's inInternational Development and Education with Cross Cultural Communication uses a multidisciplinary approach to international development. It considers contemporary global change through various perspectives, including:

• Social
• Political
• Historical
• Environmental
• Economic

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) run through the modules. This provides a contemporary stance on where the world stands today at building a better world for people and our planet by 2030. You'll gain an understanding of and explore current debates around how education contributes to the development process.

Learning through case studies will cultivate your ability to think critically about development issues. You'll explore data using secondary sources. You'll also carry out your own research study through our unique placement module. This extends your learning into the field of development and education. This hands-on experience is an opportunity to co-create and co-develop impactful change.

This accredited degree provides training in key and emerging topics such as cyber security, data science and bioinformatics. This ensures you graduate prepared to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Taught by world-leading experts, you'll study a broad curriculum in your first two years, developing knowledge in different aspects of computing science. You'll gain highly desirable skills in problem solving, program design and implementation.

Your paid work placement in Stage 3 will provide practical experience and industry contacts benefiting your academic study and long-term career goals.

From Stage 4 you can specialise in a particular area of computer science or build your own broad based degree.

In Stage 5 you can choose master's-level modules from the MSc in Advanced Computer Science. You'll receive comprehensive research training to help develop your skills in computer and information systems.

The Cross-Cultural Communication and International Management MA provides theoretical, research and practical training in international and intercultural communication and international business management. 

This master's in Cross-Cultural Communication and International Management celebrates diversity in cultural contexts. It focuses on the skills, competences and knowledge essential in today's global business environment.

The International Management pathway is a specialism of the Cross-Cultural Communication MA. It allows you to study international business management and intercultural communication. It responds to the growing internationalisation of business and management practice. Academic staff from Newcastle University Business School (NUBS) deliver this specialist pathway.

You'll have the opportunity to:

This four-year Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies degree focuses on developing your language skills in Spanish and Portuguese. You're encouraged to explore the rich linguistic, social and cultural diversity of the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and the Spanish Caribbean.

You will study a range of research-informed modules which cover topics such as social customs, art, music and the survival of indigenous people. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to study Catalan from Stage 2.

You will achieve a high level of Spanish, both written and spoken. You will also build your Portuguese from a beginners' level.

You'll become a confident multilinguist, ready to embark on your career journey as a global citizen.
