Our Classics and Ancient History master's builds and expands on your previous studies. You can specialise in either classics or ancient history.

The course is primarily designed for students who have studied ancient history, classics or classical studies as their first degree.

Classics and ancient history at Newcastle has a long and distinguished reputation for its research and teaching. We've taught Latin and Greek since 1874, ancient history since 1910, and classical archaeology since 1931.

You can choose to study one of two pathways: Classics or Ancient History.

If you're interested in classics, you'll study literatures, languages and cultures of Ancient Greece and Rome at an advanced level.

If you specialise in ancient history, you'll focus on the histories, societies and cultures of:

• Archaic and Classical Greece
• Rome
• The wider Mediterranean world

You'll develop your own research interests and professional skills.

This research master's in Japanese Studies includes taught and research-based elements. It is well suited as preparation for PhD research.

You'll focus on a particular area of Japanese studies that you'd like to carry out postgraduate research on. We place a high emphasis on excellent supervision, researcher training and development.

Our research staff work in diverse fields. This ranges from sociocultural, historical and political studies to film and literature, linguistics and sociolinguistics.

Explore the Greek and Roman worlds and piece together their history using diverse types of evidence. From analysing ancient texts to studying material remains, you’ll explore areas such as architecture, sculpture, pottery and coins ensuring you develop a broad range of knowledge.

Our classroom extends beyond the University, to the region's diverse heritage: from Hadrian's Wall to Bamburgh Castle on the Northumbrian coast, there's a rich past to discover on our doorstep.

Marine Technology with Naval Architecture BEng focuses on developing your knowledge of the design and operation of ships and other large floating structures. You'll gain a broad engineering education. This equips you with key engineering skills engineers apply to industry-specific problems. You'll use these skills to design the latest technologies for application. This accredited degree also provides a direct route to Chartered Engineer status.

You'll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in advanced topics of naval architecture during your third year. You'll have the option to specialise in a field that interests you. This enables you to graduate in your chosen specialism tailored to your career of choice. Specialisms include:

• Offshore engineering, including offshore design, marine structures and offshore engineering
• Small craft technology, including small craft design, marine structures and small craft hydrodynamics

This four-year Accounting and Finance with Placement BSc Honours degree focuses on developing your knowledge of the academic theory that underpins accounting and finance practice, so you graduate well prepared for your future career.
