Do you aspire to contribute to the future of an expanding industry in engineering? Our course will help you do this by advancing your knowledge of robotics, artificial intelligence and electronics systems at the forefront of engineering and design.

In your first two years, you'll learn core elements of electronic, electrical and mechanical engineering. A you'll combine this with aspects of computer science, giving you a comprehensive overview of robotics engineering. You'll be supported by, and benefit from, academic staff who are advancing research in our Centre for Autonomous Robotics (CENTAUR).

To become a skilled engineer, you need good technical design knowledge. That’s why our course places project work at the centre of your learning experience. Group projects challenge you to work in teams to solve practical engineering problems using communication, teamwork and management skills. You can also join one of our student teams who compete annually. These include Team Bath Racing Electric, Team Bath Drones and the autonomous underwater systems team.

You’ll graduate with a strong understanding of the operation, components and design techniques of robotics engineering. Your studies will prepare you for a career in robotics and automation in areas such as robotic systems design, autonomous systems and medical robotics.

Our MEng degrees give you an in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and project work and fulfil the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer.

Placement Year

Going on placement can give you the chance to apply your theoretical knowledge to the workplace and learn about the technologies and processes used in industry. In the first two years, you’ll study a mix of mathematics and computing units, including computational approaches to finding patterns in data. You'll also share lectures with Mathematical Sciences students to study fundamental algebra and mathematical analysis. Our MA Interpreting and Translating is designed to give you the practical skills and experience you need to work as an interpreter and translator at a high level.

You must have an excellent understanding of two languages. You can choose from one of two pathways:

• Path 1 allows you to work with two other languages (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish) into English
• Path 2 allows you to work in both directions between Chinese/English or Russian/English

Our interpreting and translating master's have has been running for over 50 years and is highly respected internationally for the quality of the training provided. Many Bath graduates have gone on to work in organisations such as the EU and UN, as well as other language services around the world.

The course covers professional translation and simultaneous, consecutive and liaison interpreting in public service and commercial settings.

You'll have access to the latest digital interpreting labs, and you will participate in mini-conferences to put your skills into practice, holding debates on controversial topics and acting as both delegate and interpreter.

We seek to arrange external training opportunities for our students with the United Nations or independent agencies, giving you first-hand experience of the workplace and valuable contacts for building your career.

Some have interpreted for heads of state and government ministers, and/or work for international organisations.
