Our materials chemists are leading on the development of exciting projects in functional polymers for the detection of bacteria, the use of nanomaterials in drug delivery and the use of novel molecular organic frameworks for hydrogen storage.

The materials chemistry curriculum has been designed around a solid understanding of the fundamental science, and an appreciation of the exciting applications possible with these new materials.

During the first two years, you will develop a sound understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry, with core content delivered across the traditional areas of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. 

This full-time Master's programme provides a comprehensive overview of drug safety practices within the drug development process.

It addresses key aspects of preclinical drug evaluation through the study of:

• Drug discovery and development
• Safety pharmacology
• Mechanisms of drug-induced toxicities
• Regulatory affairs
• Bioanalytical sciences

It will give you state-of-the-art training in preclinical toxicology, with an emphasis on the molecular in vitro and in vivo aspects of toxicology and safety pharmacology assessments.

As part of the programme you will undertake an original research project that will be the basis of your dissertation.

The study of heritage is vital for understanding our sense of identity and place. Heritage has widespread meaning; past, present and future narratives are interwoven with both physical features (landscapes, buildings, structures, monuments and objects), and more intangible practices based on oral traditions and living memory that enliven and enrich cultural experience (stories, traditions, crafts, food, dance, music and poetry).

The programme will span local, regional and global heritage, investigating new methods, and the value of heritage and for contemporary society across many cultural contexts. In addition to vocational skills, studying Heritage and Archaeology will give you a broad range of transferable skills including problem solving, team working, and independent research, preparing you for a wide variety of careers, future study and research. This new MSc in Occupational Science is the only programme of its kind in the UK. Occupational science is the scientific study of humans as occupational beings. Occupational scientists study the impact of culture, environment and society on health and well-being. Whilst occupational science is not occupational therapy, it is the academic discipline that informs and shapes occupational therapy practice.

This programme has been designed to meet the demands of an evolving healthcare system and to provide a deeper understanding of occupation and its application to society. Occupational therapists are increasingly working in multi-disciplinary teams, with traditional, diverse and emerging populations. The specialism of occupational therapy and the use of occupation as a framework for assessment, treatment and review of service user need has a key role in meeting current and emerging 21st Century challenges. A sound understanding of occupation and its application to phenomena, populations, communities, cultures, environments, disorders, disabilities and illness is therefore needed to support and guide the developing occupational therapy workforce.

This programme is primarily designed for students with an undergraduate qualification in occupational therapy, but is also available for humanities, public health and social policy graduates who wish to study at MSc level a specialist subject that has practical applications and relevance outside of occupational therapy.

This innovative new programme will give you a rigorous understanding of international relations and politics, and of conflict and security issues - globally and regionally across the world.

Spanning the rural Yorkshire Dales to inner city districts, no other area of the UK offers the rich diversity of clinical experience available through the University and its partner Trusts.

Throughout your studies you will be taught by a team of professional nurses supported by other staff at the Faculty of Health Studies, and have access to a suite of purpose-built practice simulation suites, which allow you to be taught and to practise your core clinical skills, from bed making, moving patients and taking blood pressure to giving injections, ward rounds and dispensing medication, and simulation of the seriously ill person using our interactive models.

This degree course has evolved to reflect this and will equip you with the traditional tools of organic synthesis and the necessary biology and biochemistry you need to succeed. We will give you hands-on experience across a range of disciplines, even including areas such as computational chemistry to solve medicinal and biological chemistry problems.
