his MSc provides Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-approved research training in politics and international relations. We aim to provide a thorough grounding in practical methodological skills through hands-on experience and the critical exploration of relevant examples and case studies. It is particularly suited to those seeking a career as a social science researcher or continuing to PhD level, including ESRC-funded doctoral study.

The program provides thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of the variety of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods available to the social scientist, and the main methods of data analysis. This MSc also covers the research process, ethical considerations and social theory. You will be encouraged to apply your methods training to substantive research interests.

This degree allows you to study two complementary disciplines, both of which ask you to think carefully about culture and to pay close attention to detail while comprehending and analysing language.

All English and German students complete a dissertation during their final year, bringing together the skills you have developed while studying both disciplines.

You will study a combination of language, art history and culture units, spending your third year abroad in a German-speaking country on a study or work placement. While abroad, you will refine your skills in your chosen language along with your cultural understanding.

Both departments encourage strong synergy between research and teaching resulting in a vibrant learning environment for our students as staff respond in their teaching to new developments. All modern languages students have access to our state-of-the-art multimedia centre.

This degree will enable you to understand and explain the ways in which religion significantly shapes the world as well as offering a rare opportunity to study the subject at home and abroad.

Your first year provides a solid foundation in religion’s complex interaction with the modern world. Subsequent years allow you more flexibility to shape your degree to suit your interests.

In years one and two you take units covering issues and approaches to the study of world religions. You will be offered optional units on various aspects of Buddhism, Christian history and theology, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Chinese and Japanese religions. You can also choose to study one of the following languages: Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin or Sanskrit.

After successfully completing years one and two, you will have the opportunity to spend your third year abroad at one of our partner universities. During your fourth year you will explore the theme of comparative religions and take optional units that enable you to focus on a theme or pursue broader issues. You will delve into the subject by producing a dissertation.

Our welcoming classroom environment enables you to interact closely with lecturers. Tutors employ a variety of teaching styles, ranging from small-group sessions to larger lecture units.

This joint honours degree combines historical and theoretical study with practice-based investigations of theatre, film and television. There are opportunities to engage with industry professionals and to use our museum-accredited archive, the Theatre Collection.

In your first year you will attend lectures, seminars and workshops that will introduce you to analysing performance in a wide variety of forms from stage to screen. You will also be introduced to a range of practical production skills in theatre and film.

In subsequent years you can choose units exploring significant historical movements, contemporary practices and theoretical concepts. Your final year independent study projects can mix group or individual performance, a short film, a written dissertation, an industrial placement or an industry study.

You will have access to filmmaking equipment, production studios and editing software and to the Wickham Theatre, where productions are presented and practical teaching takes place. We also have strong links with theatres, arts centres and media companies.
