The first two years of the course are identical to our single honours mathematics degrees, providing a broad background in pure, applied and statistical mathematics which underpins more advanced material later.

Year one consists of compulsory topics. In your second year you can start to shape your degree; choose from an extensive range of topics that most interest you.

Provided you fulfil progression requirements, you will spend your third year abroad at one of our partner universities. This course is different to 'with Study Abroad in a Modern Language' as you will study in English and are not required to learn a foreign language. On returning to Bristol you will complete your final year, choosing from a wide range of units from our MSci Mathematics course, and benefiting from our pioneering research.

The aim of the MSc in Educational Research is to provide the methodological, analytical and practical expertise required to become a competent educational researcher. This is an Economic and Social Research Council-recognised programme, and one of the research training pathways that make up the South West Doctoral Training Partnership.

This MSc will appeal to those who are interested in developing a career in educational research, as well as professionals working in education institutions or organisations that require research knowledge and skills.

You will learn about the fundamental building blocks and forces of nature and how quantum physics and relativity help us understand the world around us, from the infinitesimal scale of particle and nuclear physics to the cosmic scale of galaxies and the Universe.

Year one gives you a comprehensive grounding in physics and mathematics. In year two you will develop a fundamental understanding of the principles of physics, including practical work in the laboratory and computational physics. Flexibility and choice are key features of a Bristol physics degree and you are usually able to transfer between courses in the first two years.

In your final year you will undertake a major project, working in a research group with a staff member. Our students' final-year projects address questions at the frontiers of our research fields and the most successful have been published in scientific journals.

Our intensive one-year MSc Management with a specialism in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability is for graduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds. It is not necessary to have any prior academic or practical experience in business or management. This program is for students who aspire to management-level and CSR- and sustainability-related roles within their chosen industry.

Our MSc Management pathways provide an introduction to management followed by a detailed exploration of a specific area of management theory and practice, in this case CSR and Sustainability. The program attracts students from around the globe and you will work with students with different backgrounds and interests.

Students will develop an in-depth understanding of the theories and practices that underpin CSR and Sustainability in today’s organisations. You will critically evaluate areas including global and social challenges to business, sustainable production and consumption, stakeholder management and engagement, and business ethics.

We aim to guide, teach and develop analytical and confident critical thinkers. You will gain insight into the nature of management and CSR and Sustainability and will be armed with the knowledge to apply management theory to practice. Linked by the formal study of logic, the two components of the course complement each other. You will develop rigorous analysis and argument distinctive of the analytic philosophical tradition, while developing mathematical maturity to reason through subtle ideas in abstract mathematics.

There is also the opportunity to use your mathematical knowledge in the study of the philosophy of biology, economics and physics.

The fourth year of the course allows you to explore mathematics and philosophy in depth, taking advantage of our research-inspired, specialist units.
