Biomedical engineering is an emerging field in the UK that involves applying physical, chemical, mathematical, computer science and engineering principles to the analysis of biological, medical, behavioural and health-related problems. Engineering Modelling and Simulation has been developed from the needs of the aerospace industry for advanced multi-disciplinary modelling and optimisation techniques, and is applicable to other industrial sectors.

Modern zoology is interdisciplinary and we believe that you need to be aware of the breadth of animal biology from the molecular to the ecological. Our zoology degree begins broadly and introduces more choice in years two and three.

You will have the freedom to tailor your course to your interests and to specialise or maintain breadth in your studies. Our modern curriculum introduces you to the integrated structure and function of healthy animals, and the mechanisms of disease and their clinical management. Themes running throughout the course instil the importance of professional skills, animal health and welfare, and veterinary public health. For the first three years you will be primarily based at the main university campus in Clifton but you will also spend time at the clinical campus in Langford. Years four and five are taught at the Langford campus, with an extended final clinical year.

The Study Abroad degree is a great opportunity to broaden your view of the world and experience a different culture. You will study at one of our partner universities in Australia, Canada, the US, Hong Kong or Singapore in your third year. There is no direct entry onto the course but you can transfer from the other courses if you reach a high academic standard in your first two years.

The first two years provide a strong foundation in engineering, including mathematics, structures, soil and fluid mechanics, computing and surveying, as well as optional units. More optional units are introduced in subsequent years, allowing you to pursue your interests while developing key professional skills.

Design is central to the course and this is reflected in the projects you will undertake. In the first year you will develop a solution to an open-ended problem, such as designing and making a model bridge. Later projects include steel work, reinforced concrete, geotechnical design and water supply systems.

You will take part in an exciting group design project in the fourth year, combining all your learning as you tackle realistic design challenges identified through our industry links. Design projects range from transportation to smart cities and from skyscrapers to sustainable housing.

Bristol Dental Hospital has a long and established history of training program in both dental hygiene and dental therapy. BSc Dental Hygiene and Therapy provides an exciting opportunity to study alongside undergraduate students on the BDS Dentistry course.

This three year degree comprises integrated and compulsory units of academic teaching, clinical skills and practice and dissertation.

Year one provides essential preclinical teaching and training, as well as an introduction to personal and professional development and patient contact on the Periodontal Clinic.

In year two you will commence preclinical training in restorative techniques for adult patients together with the dental undergraduate students. in your final term you will begin restorative treatment of adult patients at the Dental Hospital.

In your final year you will begin preclinical training in paediatric dentistry alongside continued clinical development, treating adult restorative and periodontal patients. You will be placed predominantly in community-based teaching clinics, treating a wide range of patients with a variety of needs, working towards a holistic approach of patient management.

You will complete an individual research project in an area of dentistry relevant to your role as a hygienist/therapist as well as completing your final modules in order to gain the BSc in Dental Hygiene and Therapy.

Launched in 2019, this course has been accepted provisionally for accreditation by the General Dental Council. It is undergoing the normal process for full approval.
