You will learn about management practice, organisation theory and the global business environment, as well as specific functions like finance and marketing. Our wide range of optional units means you will be able to personalise your degree to reflect your interests and career ambitions in areas such as strategy, business law and human resource management. 

Your first year will involve study of international business, accounting, finance, marketing, mathematics and statistics, providing you with a solid foundation on which to build, whichever aspect of business or management you choose as the focus of your studies.

During your second year we will help you to develop an understanding of research design, data collection and data analysis, including analysis of survey data, interviews and observation in organisations, in preparation for your final-year dissertation. This is a piece of individual research in which you can focus on a topic that stimulates your interest the most.

Alongside your preparation for, and production of, the dissertation, you will take other core and optional units during your second and final years.

This degree combines theatre with the study of German. The course offers an enriching experience with exciting intellectual challenges and a wide range of options that will allow you to pursue your own interests.

For German, as well as following a structured language course, you will build your practical skills and explore critical and historical frameworks through literature, history, thought, politics, linguistics and culture. When you return to Bristol for your final year you will have the opportunity to undertake an independent practical or written research project and/or a work placement in the creative industries.

Marketing embraces a range of compulsory skills, competences and knowledge that makes our students competitive in today’s digital era. This program reflects the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies' expertise in research methods training. It provides comprehensive training in the whole process of research conceptualisation, design and operationalisation.

It is particularly suitable for those seeking a career as a social science researcher or going on to a PhD, including Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded doctoral study. It has been carefully formulated to reflect the training recommended by the ESRC and has been accredited as a research training program.

The program delivers a thorough theoretical and practical grounding in the variety of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods available to the social scientist and in the principal methods of analysing data. The program also covers the philosophies underpinning the research process, ethical considerations and social theory. You will be encouraged to apply your methods training to your substantive research interests.

The joint honours English and Portuguese degree allows you to study two complementary disciplines, both of which ask you to think carefully about culture and history and to pay close attention to detail while comprehending and analysing language.

All English and Portuguese students complete a dissertation during the final year; a project that will ask you to bring together the skills you have developed while studying both disciplines.

This joint honours degree focuses on the place of religion in society, both in the present and in the past. The sociology aspect of the degree explores dimensions of the social world, including actions, structures, beliefs, power and representation. The course is equally weighted toward both subjects.

You will acquire a solid foundation in several religious traditions. In sociology there is particular emphasis on sociological theory and its application to real-world concerns, including issues of ethnicity, beliefs and multiculturalism. The wide-ranging, flexible curriculum offers progressive intellectual challenges and consolidates your experience throughout.

In year one you will have one mandatory unit in theology and one in sociology, together with four optional units of your choice (two from each subject).

In years two and three you will continue taking optional units in both subjects, covering a diverse range of topics, which may include Christian History and Theology; Modern Slavery; Perspectives of Power; Islam; Buddhism; Judaism; and Environment and Society.
