Modern zoology is interdisciplinary and we believe that you need to be aware of the breadth of animal biology from the molecular to the ecological. Our zoology degree begins broadly and introduces more choice in years two and three.

Computing skills are vital across many physics-related careers. Computers control advanced instrumentation and simulations predicting the properties of the universe, from subatomic particles to the formation of galaxies.

This course offers a unique combination of units and projects blending programming, machine learning, data science and high-performance computing with fundamental concepts in physics, to produce a new kind of scientist – one with a firm foundation in physics, a sound appreciation of scientific computing and an understanding of what can be achieved by combining them.

Year one gives you a comprehensive grounding in physics, mathematics and programming, while year two focuses on the principles of physics with further emphasis on scientific coding. The MA Chinese-English Audiovisual Translation is designed to prepare students to work in the fast-growing audiovisual sector of the language industries. The driver for industry growth is the ubiquitous availability of video content. Audiovisual translation accounts for up to a third of language services activity both in China and internationally.

The program focuses on technological competence and practical skills building in a range of audiovisual translation modes. The program also offers a broader grounding in key concepts and audiovisual industry dynamics. Students build their core skills through compulsory units in applied translation, CAT tools, translation theory and concepts in audiovisual translation. They can then take options in subtitling, videogame localization, introduction to specialised translation or translation and international film distribution. Students can do a research-based or a practice-based dissertation; the dissertation must be on a topic related to audiovisual translation.

Tutors include specialists in translation technologies, videogame localization and subtitling. Bristol is a UNESCO City of Film and film and media culture is very lively here. The different groups involved in microelectronics research at the University of Bristol have many collaborative links with multinational companies in the microelectronics industry. These organisations have identified a shortfall in graduates with the necessary qualifications and professional skills to work in the sector, so this programme has been designed to meet this need.

A range of taught subjects cover core topics, such as digital and analogue ASIC design, DSP and FPGA-based computing, integrated sensors and actuators, radio-frequency and mixed-signal design. Our intensive, one-year, MSc Management with a specialism in Project Management is for graduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds. It is not necessary to have any prior academic or practical experience in business or management. It will especially suit students pursuing management careers in manufacturing and production, consultancy, construction, product development or ICT.

Our MSc Management pathways provide an introduction to management followed by a detailed exploration of a specific area of management theory and practice, in this case Project Management. The program attracts students from around the globe and you will be part of a cohort with variety of backgrounds and interests. 

The MSc will develop an in-depth understanding of project management within a broad range of organisations. You will critically evaluate assumptions, methods, and procedures of project management, giving you a grounding in relevant frameworks that will develop your managerial thinking within project contexts.

You will gain insight into the nature of management and digital business and will be armed with the knowledge to apply management theory to practice. The MSci Pharmacology degree is a four-year degree with an extended research project in the final year. This degree provides the opportunity to gain an excellent knowledge of pharmacology and apply it to experimental research. The extended project will provide valuable day-to-day experience of what it is like to be a researcher and develops the skills required to embark on a career in research.

The first three years of this degree follow the BSc Pharmacology course, with the opportunity to study a number of core pharmacology units in the first two years. These units will introduce you to the fundamentals of drug action and how drugs interact with their targets.

The degree is focused on the pharmacology of the nervous and cardiovascular systems and provides extensive investigation into how drugs are being used in a variety of disorders. You will also be able to choose further units in the first two years, including biochemistry, molecular genetics, infection and immunity, cellular and molecular medicine and mammalian physiology.

Third-year units emphasise the molecular mechanisms of drug action within the nervous and cardiovascular systems. These units are taught from the current scientific literature and will take you to the forefront of current research, which you evaluate by undertaking a literature-based research project.

The final year of the MSci Pharmacology will focus on an extended research proposal within a research laboratory using advanced techniques. Alongside the project you will take units that will develop valuable skills in communicating science to the public and will develop a portfolio of public engagement activities.

This final year will instil a range of skills essential for understanding how to plan and conduct research projects; these skills are widely applicable to future employment and will also benefit those considering future PhD training.
