The first year provides a broad background in pure, applied and statistical mathematics via a range of compulsory units. You'll cover material in lectures and small-group tutorials, with the freedom to explore a range of topics in collaboration with your personal tutor and fellow students.

From year two you will focus more on units that relate to statistics for use in finance, although there is still scope to take some units from other areas.

As you move through the course you will gain academic independence, moving from small-group tutorial teaching in year one to an optional, independent project in your final year.

Cutting-edge topics include animal capture and handling techniques; the assessment, stabilisation and transportation of injured animals; methods for improving the welfare of captive animals; concepts in behavioural ecology; endangered species breeding program; the reintroduction of captive populations to the wild; practical conservation strategies; and the management of protected areas. Our BSc Psychology is recognised by the British Psychological Society as qualification for graduate registration and our course is specifically designed to meet its requirements.

In the first year you will study psychology, research methods (laboratory classes and statistics) and an open unit in another school.

In the second year you will focus on research methods and units in the psychology core curriculum.

The final year of the degree is entirely option based, allowing you to choose from a range of lecture and seminar units that you will undertake together with a research project.

In year three you will follow a seminar-based course in which you will be actively involved in expert-led discussion of the latest anatomical research. This course recognises the importance of statistical analysis in these two core disciplines. The course emphasises the benefit of studying econometrics: the application of statistical methods to data to estimate economic models.

The first two years of the degree are focused on building your mathematical and analytical abilities and include mandatory units in micro- and macro-economics, mathematics, statistics and econometrics, and the fundamentals of accounting and finance. These units allow you to develop the necessary skills to complete the applied economics dissertation in your final year, when you can also choose from a wide range of optional units.

Previously, economics units have included: Economics of Developing Countries; Behavioural Economics; and International Economics. Finance units have included: Financial Crises; International Finance; and Portfolio Management.

In year one you will receive an overview of human and physical geography and develop a range of geographical and scientific skills. The remaining years are organised around specialist units from human and/or physical geography.

Physical geography units cover three broad areas: glaciology, hydrology and environmental change. Human geography units provide in-depth study of cultural, economic and social geography, emphasising the importance of theory and methods for analysing contemporary geographical problems and policies. Topics range from economic development and global politics to inequalities of health and contemporary social theory.

You will also develop skills in the use of specialised computer software, statistics and data collection in the field. Field trips and practical work are key components of the course. There are UK residential trips in year one and in year two there is typically an overseas field trip.

The skills that you acquire throughout your studies will be applied in a self-directed dissertation project in year three.

In your first year you will study essential, core components of mathematics and computer science, giving you a rigorous foundation for future years. Subsequently, you will have the opportunity to tailor your mathematics and computer science options so that you graduate with a balance of theoretical and practical skills that reflects your interests.

This MSc conversion program is for students from a variety of academic backgrounds who have little or no previous academic computing experience. The aims of the programme are to build:

• An understanding of the basis of computer science and its importance in software development;
• An understanding of the underlying principles of computer systems and their applications;
• An introduction to industrial-style methods of analysis, design, implementation, testing and documentation in software development;
• An appreciation of the current state and future directions of technological advances in computer science.

Learn from experts, with interests ranging from dinosaurs to plants to the origin of life, and become fully immersed in hands-on palaeontology from the start.

One third of the first year is dedicated to biology and two thirds to earth science. After the first year you will take core units from both disciplines.

In the third year you will carry out a research project and take a range of specialist palaeontology units. Examples of current units include: Marine Micropalaeontology, where you will learn to use microfossils to reconstruct past climates and understand their impact on ecosystems; Macroevolution, where you will learn cutting-edge techniques for analysing the large-scale patterns in the evolution of life; and Vertebrate Palaeobiology and Biomechanics, where you will study the evolution of the vertebrates from fish-like creatures to humans. You will also select from a range of optional units to pursue your own interests.

The course involves fieldwork, including dedicated palaeontology field courses, the cost of which is included in your tuition fee.
