This course is ideal for students interested in learning more about how to use numbers and data within sociology. About two thirds of your studies will follow the single honours sociology course. You will study society’s structures, forms of action and cultural practices, and understand changes in social life. You will gain a thorough grounding in sociology, as well as opportunities to specialise in new areas of research conducted by academics at the forefront of the discipline.

The remaining third of your course will provide interdisciplinary training in quantitative methods. In year one of the quantitative pathway we discuss how numbers and data are used to tell convincing stories in the media and social research. We consider what is meant by segregation and how it can be mapped and measured.

Year two offers practical classes in social statistics and applied data analysis, which will develop your skills in numeracy and analysis.

This specialist program will appeal to graduates aiming for a managerial or consulting career within global operations, logistics or supply chain management in the private, public or third sector. You will learn how to manage and improve global supply chain operations and develop an appreciation of its role and function in the context of international organisations.

This new program examines the effects of global trade and business and the significance of grand challenges, such as: increasing digitalisation and innovation in product/service development; international environmental sustainability regulation; and corporate social responsibility and ethics issues.

The program reflects contemporary themes and developments within operations and supply chain management. You will explore how global supply chains are managed and will acquire the skills and confidence to challenge, innovate and solve problems.

We enjoy close links with industry, government and voluntary sectors, providing opportunities to engage with supply chain professionals. You will hear from sector experts in guest lectures and there may be the option to take part in a live consulting project with a client organisation.

The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). This means that on completion of the course students with the required work experience can apply to become full members of CIPS without taking further examinations.

You will study the politics of individual countries and governments and the relationships between countries, communities and individuals. You will become familiar with different views and methods of analysis, learning to apply and evaluate them.

The remaining third of your course will provide interdisciplinary training in quantitative methods. This course combines politics and international relations with the study of French, the first language of some 90 million speakers around the world. This provides a valuable skill set ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.

You will study the politics of individual countries and governments and the relationships between countries, communities and individuals.

Politics is organised around three themes:

• Political theory
• Comparative and national politics
• International relations.

In French, you combine advanced study of the language with cultural, literary and historical units. You spend your third year abroad, which enables you to refine your language skills and cultural knowledge and gain valuable work experience. This degree is designed for students with potential who do not have a science background. You can automatically progress from this course to our BSc or MSci Chemistry degrees.

Our chemistry courses offer a superb grounding in the subject. In years one and two you will study fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in areas such as analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

You will also develop your ability to design experiments and interpret results and gain key skills through our chemistry-specific communications and mathematics units.

You will get the opportunity to specialise after the first two years. BSc final-year project options include work in a research laboratory or a local school, helping to develop science resources or carrying out chemistry education research. On the MSci course you will complete a 20-week research project with an academic member of staff in your final year.
