If you want a career in photography, this is the course for you. Through a range of projects, you’ll explore and evolve your vision and practice in photography. Through practical workshops, you will learn technical expertise and through feedback and group sessions you will critique and expand your visual language. You’ll also study the theoretical side of photography, including its fascinating history and contemporary practices. Experimentation, creativity and collaboration are encouraged and facilitated throughout the course. The course has a clear industry focus that aims to develop your professional awareness. A key part of your Final Year is learning how to operate as a freelancer, interact with clients and approach potential employers. This culminates in the presentation of your final portfolio to employers and public-facing graduate shows.

The friendly and supportive course encourages you to explore and evolve your photographic vision and practice through a programme of workshops, seminars, lectures and work experience opportunities. Through a sequence of practical projects, you gain a range of technical skills and professional knowledge. Experimentation and risk-taking are encouraged together with the critical study of photographic histories, theories and contemporary practices.

The photography programme emphasises professionalism and industry relevance. The tutors and visiting lecturers are practising photographers or potential employers from the media industries such as working photographers, agents, artists, art directors, marketing professionals and curators.

Top up your two-year Foundation degree or diploma and join the Final Year of our information technology course. Alternatively, you can join the Second Year if you prefer. This course will allow you to choose from a variety of options, many with a technology and software development focus, that will give you a broad range of technical skills and knowledge. You’ll also work on a substantial practical project and enhance your general transferable skills.

If you already have a good HND or Foundation degree in Computer Studies or Software Engineering or an equivalent qualification, these two courses allow you to progress to a BSc (Hons) Computer Science or Information Technology degree through one year of extra study.

This course is designed to provide the educational base you need to become professionally recognised as a chartered engineer. As with the BEng, you will learn the principles of civil engineering and the latest industry developments, but the extra Master’s year will give you a much broader, more in-depth understanding of the subject. Fashion impacts upon all aspects of our lives and shapes our appreciation and understanding of the world around us. Biology is the scientific study of living organisms and deals with every aspect of life. During the course you’ll examine the physiology of the human body and how it’s affected by disease and drugs. You’ll study the structure, biochemistry and mechanics of the cell, as well as evolutionary processes and genetics, both in mammals and microorganisms. As you progress, you’ll choose from a wide range of modules including blood sciences, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology and drug discovery. You’ll also have the chance to study abroad or take a year’s work placement, either of which will boost your employability. Ultimately, you’ll gain the technical, analytical and practical skills needed to investigate biological phenomena in microorganisms, plants, humans and animals. This degree is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology.

• Biology is a discipline with a broad range of applications affecting many areas of human activity.  You will study life at all levels from molecules, through organelles and cells, to whole organisms.  You will gain the technical, analytical and practical skills needed to investigate biological phenomena in microorganisms, plants, human beings and other animals.
• The Biological Science programme offers you flexibility and a broad range of options for study.  The first year provides a solid foundation in all aspects of biology including topics in areas such as physiology, biochemistry, genetics and cell biology.  It also gives you an opportunity to start developing your practical skills in the laboratory.   At second and final year you can choose from a range of modules from across our biosciences courses according to your particular interests.

The MSc Sustainable Planning is delivered in the Ebenezer Howard School of Planning, reflecting our unique location in the county which houses the world’s first garden cities and our focus on exploring the contemporary planning implications of this placemaking patrimony.

Planning plays a key role to play in improving the condition of life in our towns, cities and rural areas. Towns and cities themselves impact on global sustainability and can play a very influential role in tackling global environmental, social and economic problems.

The breadth of material covered will give you the skills you need in order to meet contemporary sustainability challenges in planning cities and rural areas. The planning system provides one of the most sophisticated mechanisms for regulating environmental change, global environmental, social and economic problems and implementing sustainability principles.

You’ll benefit from a wide range of modules, from Planning Law, Policy and Practice to Sustainable Energy and Urban Design and Conservation. As part of our enterprise and employability focus, we give you many options to gain work experience.  You can undertake internships during the summer, engage in multiple work shadowing opportunities, and take on a year long placement between your second and third year. Our students have completed placements with a wide variety of businesses, such as Walt Disney, Bluehat Group, British Fashion Council, Givergy Events and charity organisations including Hope for Children.

Many students also choose to broaden their horizons through our study abroad programme in second year with one of our partner universities in Europe, North America or Australia. Some combine their language study options with a half-year of study in the language home country and then a further half-year work placement in the same country. Teaching and technical Support
The program values one-to-one teaching in support of individual development, alongside peer learning within technical skills workshops and group seminars.

Teaching on the program is delivered by tutors who are practicing artists exhibiting internationally and supported by a vibrant program of visiting artists and industry professionals. Within the School, there is a lively and diverse lecture program with contributions from artists, poets, art critics and curators, so our students can link with practicing artists and contemporary artwork.

Taught workshops traverse all areas of contemporary practice, including painting, sculpture, digital imaging, printmaking, moving image, installation, photography, moving image and more. Alongside this, the Critical and Cultural Studies modules provide students with the skills to critically analyse contemporary visual arts and culture, both in written studies and within the context of the studio.
