On this BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree, you'll explore past and current socio-economic systems and discover how the world works. Learn quantitative tools, historical data, and the technical skills to analyse them. Philosophy modules will teach you logic and ethics, and how to critique the present order. You'll spend a year studying abroad to experience another culture and see a different world view.

On this broad, combined honours course, you’ll get a balanced education in all three Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) subjects. It is owned by the Philosophy department.

The degree helps you properly frame the questions that unite the subject of the PPE degree, and answer them in a rigorous but free-spirited way. These include questions on:

You'll spend a year studying at a university in another part of the world. Destinations include countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

Become fluent in a major international language, deepen your understanding of Linguistics and spend a year in a French-speaking country. You can complement your language learning with modules on History, Contemporary Society, Literature and Film.

What you learn on this French and Linguistics degree will prepare you for work across the world. French is native to France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and the French Caribbean, and it’s an official language in much of Africa and Asia.

Study film from a variety of perspectives: as popular art, big business and as a cultural record with our Film Studies degree. Immerse yourself in the subject, from the earliest projected images to the present day. Learn how to view Hollywood blockbusters, European and world cinema with a critical eye.

You’ll study familiar classics alongside contemporary cinema, and genres including:

• animation

You’ll deepen your understanding and enjoyment of film and develop your critical thinking as part of a lively community.

You can choose to spend a semester or a summer abroad at one of our partner universities, including: South Korea, Sweden, Ireland, Hong Kong and the Czech Republic.

You can also hone your filmmaking skills with our student-led filmmaking, TV and radio societies. They offer training and equipment to help you try out directing, producing, scriptwriting, sound or camera work.

As part of this film degree you can:

• explore British, European and world cinema
• discover early film through archive visits
• use our extensive library resources, including over 5,800 films from around the world

• volunteer at a cinema to develop new skills, such as team leading, projection and digital design

We offer a 4-week summer school at Dongguk University in Seoul. This includes film and cultural orientation courses.

Some of the greatest academic minds have been both mathematicians and philosophers. On this joint BA Philosophy and Mathematics degree you'll explore the relationship between the two disciplines. Both develop the ability to think abstractly and analyse complex ideas.

On this joint BA Philosophy and Music degree you’ll study some of the biggest questions in philosophy and develop skills in musical performance, composition and analysis. You’ll have the freedom to work on your own interests through optional modules covering varied topics. These include existentialism, studio techniques and nineteenth century Italian opera. You'll also get to spend a placement year abroad.

In your degree you can:
