Civil engineering is essential to the development of our society, from planning to construction. Our 4-year, integrated master's course goes beyond the 3-year degree, and lets you specialise in an area of your choosing. You'll develop the design, management and teamwork skills that employers look for. Major engineering companies often get involved in our group design projects.

This MEng Civil Engineering course follows the BEng Civil Engineering degree for the first 3 years. In the fourth year, you can choose to focus on specialist topics, including:

• Coastal and maritime engineering
• Earthquake engineering
• Bioenergy
• Transport modelling
• Waste resource management
• Architectural acoustics

The group project in year 4 lets you apply your conceptual engineering and scientific knowledge to an engineering design problem. As a team you’ll develop an idea through detailed design, experimentation, computer modelling and manufacture. Our Design Show blog has examples of our students’ design work.

As part of this course you can:

This integrated 4-year master's is ideal if you want to go on to further chemistry research or study, or work in the chemical or pharmaceutical industries. Chemistry plays a key role in tackling some of the world’s biggest problems. You'll explore renewable energy and its storage, cleaner and more efficient processes for manufacturing chemicals, and medicines and treatments for disease.

MChem Chemistry at Southampton focuses on tackling problems and being part of a sustainable future.

This programme is taught by academics at the forefront of chemistry research, giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge in wide range of areas. These include computational chemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance and drug discovery.

You'll gain an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of chemistry and excellent practical lab skills. Optional modules will enable you to shape your degree to specialise in the areas that most inspire you - from chemical modelling, to electrochemistry, or pharmaceuticals.

You’ll use our outstanding state of the art equipment in our range of laboratories. These include the single crystal diffraction lab, the mass spectrometry lab and a dedicated X-ray crystallography teaching facility.

This degree is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. When you graduate you'll be eligible for full membership status (MRSC).

Study our full-time 2 year audiology master’s with clinical placement and combine scientific learning with practical training. Our 3 year course offers a part-time clinical placement over 2 years. Gain the skills to work in clinical audiology. UK applicants who complete the course are eligible to register with The Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) and to work in the NHS as an audiologist. Our graduates from this degree have become leaders in the field both in the UK and abroad.
