Sociology – the study of humans in society – is at the heart of the roadmap towards a sustainable future. Each of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals has a sociological aspect, and understanding the social implications of world trade, economic growth, and climate change has never been more critical.

Since the birth of the neoliberal era, major global transformations have redefined societies across the world. Sociologists are now focusing on why the current organisation of society might itself be unsustainable, researching innovative solutions to develop social-environmental relationships that are less environmentally harmful.

On this course, you will combine sociological concepts, including race, identity, ethnicity, and gender, and apply these to global issues such as wealth inequality, elite power, and food security. Our transdisciplinary approach also gives you the freedom to research the topics that most interest you.

Study abroad

We encourage you to take the opportunity to study abroad during your course at Warwick.

• You may choose to apply for an intercalated year spent either studying abroad or on a work placement (subject to you meeting departmental academic requirements). This will mean extending your course to four years.

If you want to extend your learning and broaden your perspective by studying abroad for a year, Warwick has partnerships with universities across the world. You will spend your first and second years at Warwick, studying abroad in your third year. You will then return to Warwick for your final year.

Mechanical systems, mechanisms and machines lie at the heart of our traditional engineering industries, and the skills and techniques associated with them continue to be essential.

In recent years, these skills have extended into areas such as precision engineering, nanotechnology and mechatronics, as mechanical engineers have broadened their abilities and embraced technologies from other disciplines to solve difficult problems.

We provide opportunities to learn from world-leading researchers at the School of Engineering and WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group) in areas such as precision mechanics, fluid dynamics and sustainable thermal energy technology, as well as complementary areas in other fields of engineering.

Study abroad

You may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research or study abroad between years two and three (BEng and MEng) or between years three and four (MEng only). If you choose to take an intercalated year this will be reflected in your degree title, and add a year to your degree program.

This course combines rigorous research of global media products, content and technologies with the creative skills needed. You will take an interdisciplinary approach to develop an oversight of media, communication, culture, politics, power, business, marketing and creativity. It will deepen your understanding of these complex dynamics and practices, preparing you for a career in this fast-changing industry.

You will explore the role of ideas, beliefs and values in media production and consumption. You will also learn how media products and content enable us to communicate creatively and effectively across global markets and cultural borders. You will consider how media can inform new kinds of professional practice and anticipate future developments.

This course draws on areas of both computer science and mathematics. You will acquire skills in software engineering, combinatorial analysis, formal proof and algorithmic analysis. Regular individual and group projects will consolidate what you have learned by allowing you to apply it to practical problems.

Your learning experiences throughout the course will enable you to both analyse and solve problems in an abstract sense, and realise solutions through computer software. These abilities, alongside transferable skills in communication, planning, and self-organisation are highly valued by employers.

By studying the four-year MEng, you have the flexibility in your final year to choose optional modules, tailoring the degree to your interests.

Study abroad

We have an established exchange programme with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which provides opportunities for our students to experience teaching and learning at another world-leading institution.

In addition to benefitting from a rich cultural experience, students returning from studying overseas exhibit an international profile that is attractive to potential employers.

Big data and quantitative methods are transforming political processes and decisions in everyday life.

Local, national and international administrations are making ‘open data’ available to wide audiences; giant, world-level web organisations are putting more and more services in synergy; and some private companies or governments are developing strongly ideological projects in relation with big data. Therefore, there is a need for trained specialists who will have the capacity to compete and/or collaborate with strictly business or technique-oriented actors on the basis of sound knowledge from political and international studies.

Our programme provides you with an understanding of the implications of different approaches to issues concerning big data and public policy.

In your first two years, you will concentrate on Physics modules, with the addition of a second-year Business module.

For your final year, you will transfer completely to WBS (Warwick Business School), where you will develop a critical understanding of how organizations work, how they are managed, and how they interact with local, national and international environments. You may, for example, take modules covering markets, marketing and strategy, finance, and entrepreneurship.

There is flexibility to switch into or out of the Physics and Business Studies stream onto one of our other courses at any time within your first two years.

Study abroad

We support student mobility through study abroad programs. BSc students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities

This degree studies the political world, with an emphasis on the Italian language and culture. This joint honors degree gives you the opportunity to acquire Italian language skills while receiving thorough training in the study of Politics and International Studies.

It is split 50:50 between Politics and International Studies and Italian with the option of a 75:25 split in either discipline in the final year. You will critically engage with the political world from national and global perspectives, exploring the theoretical and empirical approaches to political ideas. At the same time you will deepen your understanding of the Italian language and culture and its relationship to Europe and the rest of the world.

The second or third year is spent studying or on a work placement in Italy.

Our Automotive Engineering degrees provide the skills and knowledge you need to stand out from the crowd. As an Engineering student at Warwick, you will develop an in-depth understanding of the classical principles of Engineering by following a general engineering programme for the first four terms. You can then specialise in Automotive Engineering, combining a firm grounding in the principles of automotive engineering with experience of cutting-edge technology.

By choosing the MEng degree, you can explore specialist areas of Automotive Engineering through fourth-year core and optional module choices and a group project.

Study abroad

The demand for mathematical statisticians has expanded so rapidly in recent years that both within and outside the academic world there is a severe shortage of well-qualified people.

These degrees enable you to specialise in both pure mathematics and statistics. They offer flexibility and a wide choice of options in Computing, Operational Research and all the other topics available to Mathematics students.

Our Biological Sciences course spans the entire scale of biological systems, from molecules to ecosystems. Our exceptionally wide range of options allows you to choose modules that are best suited to your interests and career ambitions.

You will be exposed to cutting-edge research in molecular, cellular and whole organism biology, while covering applications of science to major global challenges such as environmental management, food security and human health.

Our four-year MBio gives you the opportunity to undertake an extended final-year research project in industry.
