This course is designed for technically-minded graduates with a background in computer science, mathematics or the physical sciences.

It provides a comprehensive preparation for the use of cutting-edge techniques in industry, though its research focus also makes it an excellent starting point for research career, through PhD study or in a commercial setting.

This program provides you with a wide range of in-depth knowledge and skills, and enables you to focus on aspects of intercultural communication that are relevant to people working either in business or in other professions.

Our core modules develop your ability to analyse, explain and investigate effective communication across cultures. Optional modules enable you to select particular areas in which you want to specialise, according to your own intellectual interests or career aspirations.

The program concludes with an empirical piece of research, which will allow you to put your knowledge into practice and further hone your practical skills in carrying out systematic research.

Explore two rich and diverse literary and cultural traditions while developing your fluency in French. There is a core French language module in every year of study.

First-year core modules will introduce you to French literature and culture, English literature, and comparative literatures.

In your intermediate and final years all English and French optional modules are open to you, spanning topics from literature and critical theory to history, politics, philosophy and film. In your final year, you can choose to write a dissertation on comparative French and English literature. You will normally spend your second or third year of study consolidating your language skills abroad.

You will graduate as a highly qualified linguist with advanced intercultural skills, a deep understanding of key issues and developments in France’s past and present, as well as an advanced knowledge of French, English, and comparative literatures.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if they are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you will move to a three-year degree. You will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

Our MSc in Economics and Data Science is for graduates in Economics who would like to pursue and specialise in Data Science and Machine Learning through a postgraduate-level degree. The course links economic theory and empirical economics with the fast developing field of Data Science. You will acquire knowledge and skills in the areas of macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, econometrics, big data, machine learning and coding. An 8,000-word dissertation provides an opportunity to explore your own interests across these fields of study.

You will be automatically enrolled on a pre-sessional Mathematics and Statistics programme to equip you with the relevant methodological skills you need to succeed.

By the end of the course you will have the knowledge of quantitative methods to analyse large amounts of data with the purpose of generating new findings and insights relevant to problems in Economics.

Skills from this degree
The course will give you a unique opportunity to acquire skills from two fields of economics and data science, including:

• Advanced training in economic analysis and techniques, with an emphasis on data science techniques and methods pertaining to applications in economics
• Acquisition, management and processing of large volumes of data
• Computer software and numeracy skills
• Analytical skills to think about national and international economics problems, policies and decision making

Both philosophical and literary works ask us to reflect deeply on human experience, but they commonly do so in different ways. This course gives you a chance to think about the wide range of methods and capacities – thought experiment, dialogue, argument, storytelling, conceptual analysis, and emotion – that contribute to human understanding.

Interdisciplinary modules put you in conversation with scholars in both fields, around texts of shared interest. You can take module options in both departments in all years, and a free third year option in any subject.

You may choose to apply for an intercalated year, spent either studying abroad or on a work placement. This extends the duration of your degree to four years, with your third year spent abroad or on placement, and will be reflected in your degree qualification (i.e. BA Philosophy and Literature with Intercalated Year).

Study abroad

We run successful undergraduate exchanges with Queen’s University, Ontario, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, enabling second-year Philosophy students (single or joint honours) to compete for the chance to spend a full year studying in North America. Modules and examinations taken at Queen’s and Madison count towards your degree.

By studying linguistics together with Spanish, you will explore the fascinating human capacity for language, while also building your fluency in Spanish. As a linguist, you will learn about the structure and function of language, and about relationships between language and society.

You will also study and practice written and oral communication in Spanish, and learn broadly about communicating across languages and cultures. Your skills in linguistic analysis will support your language learning, and your knowledge of Spanish will complement your work as a linguist. This course opens many career opportunities that require the knowledge and skills of both a modern language and a deep understanding of language, culture and communication.

Study abroad

If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. All students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities. Spanish is a world language with around 400 million speakers. Today, Spanish is one of the most important languages for commerce and cultural exchange.

We offer an innovative approach, combining the study of the Spanish language with the study of the diverse range of Hispanic cultures across Europe, the Caribbean, the Americas, and even aspects of Hispanic history in Africa and the Pacific.

Combining Hispanic Studies with film means you will graduate as a highly qualified linguist with advanced intercultural skills. You will gain an excellent knowledge of visual aesthetics, cinematic culture and narrative forms.

You will spend a 75% of your time on Hispanic Studies and 25% of your time focusing on Film Studies. Your second or third year will normally be spent abroad, consolidating and enhancing your learning.

Our Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc focuses on the key skills required by the modern mechanical engineer.

You will develop the versatility and depth of knowledge to deal with new and unusual challenges across a wide range of disciplines, within engineering and beyond. Teaching is underpinned by research in automotive systems, biomedical engineering, solid and fluid mechanics, electrical and thermal energy systems, energy conversion/storage and sustainable cities.

You will also complete an individual research project – an in-depth experimental, theoretical or computational investigation of a topic chosen by you in conjunction with your academic supervisor.

The Department of Film and Television Studies at Warwick is regarded as one of the finest in the world and offers an unparalleled training in audio-visual literacy, an increasingly valuable attribute in today’s world.

Our MA in Film and Television Studies is not the same as Media Studies, Communications Studies or Journalism Studies. We offer modules which make more use of the kinds of methodologies employed in the study of English Literature, History and Art History rather than those practised in the sociological analysis of communications industries. This is a theoretical course and we do not offer any training in the skills of practical filmmaking.

Drawing on the internationally recognised expertise of our academics, primarily in the areas of Film and Television aesthetics, history and theory, this course enables you to familiarise yourself with key disciplinary issues and topics, and to prepare for application for PhD, if desired.
