Overview

Our flexible MA in Writing is open to students from around the world and offers two pathways: 

Route A (Taught) Full-Time

Four taught modules (Fiction Workshop 1 or Writing Poetry, plus three other taught modules of your choice, plus compulsory training in Research for Writing)

Route B (Long Project) Full-Time

Two taught modules (Fiction Workshop 1 or Writing Poetry, plus one other taught module of your choice, plus compulsory training in Research for Writing) and a Long Project module for which you write a long piece of creative work in any genre that the Programme is able to supervise. This creative piece is accompanied by a shorter critical reflection.

Route B (Long Project) Full-Time

Two taught modules (Fiction Workshop 1 or Writing Poetry, plus one other taught module of your choice, plus compulsory training in Research for Writing) and a Long Project module for which you write a long piece of creative work in any genre that the Programme is able to supervise. In your first year you take two taught modules (Fiction Workshop 1 or Writing Poetry, plus one other taught module of your choice, plus compulsory training in Research for Writing). In your second year you take a Long Project module for which you write a long piece of creative work in any genre that the Programme is able to supervise. This creative piece is accompanied by a shorter critical reflection.

Permission to follow the Long Project route depends on an assessment of your prior experience of writing and of a proposal submitted before the degree begins, as well as on the availability of a qualified supervisor(s) who will supervise you during the spring and summer terms.

Warwick Writing Programme
The acclaimed Warwick Writing Programme is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in Europe. You will be working alongside practising, award-winning novelists, poets and literary translators. Our teaching staff includes: A.L. Kennedy, Tim Leach, Nell Stevens, Maureen Freely (Chair of the International Booker Prize 2019), Gonzalo C. Garcia, David Morley (winner of the Ted Hughes Award 2015), Ian Sansom and Chantal Wright. We are closely involved with The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award. Each year the winner of the award – which has in the past included Sally Rooney and Raymond Antrobus – spends a period of time as writer-in-residence at Warwick, working with students.

The MA in English and Drama offers an exciting opportunity to specialise in the study of dramatic texts and theatre history while maintaining a range of interests within the field of literary studies more broadly. You will work with leading experts in Shakespeare and early modern drama, theatre history, and modern performance theory and practice.

This MA combines a focus on dramatic texts and theatrical performance and includes the option of a professional placement or an extended practical project. In addition to the core module in Drama and Performance theory, you will study three modules of your choice, and write a dissertation on an (approved) topic with a specialised supervisor.

Biomedical Science involves the study of life processes in humans. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, a cyber physical age, will be realised over the next 20 years.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be at the forefront of these exciting developments and is delivered in partnership with WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group), renowned worldwide for its innovative links between academia and industry.

All Engineering students at Warwick develop an in-depth understanding of the classical principles of Engineering by following a general engineering programme for the first four terms. You can then specialise in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, where you will learn and develop state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies that graduates find directly applicable in industry.

By choosing the MEng degree you can explore specialist areas of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering through fourth-year core and optional module choices and a group project.

Study abroad

  • You may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research or study abroad between years two and three (BEng and MEng) or between years three and four (MEng only). If you choose to take an intercalated year this will be reflected in your degree title, and add a year to your degree program.

Master of Science in Mathematical Finance

This unique course provides training from three top departments at the University of Warwick: Mathematics, Statistics and Warwick Business School. Building on your strong mathematical background, you will develop and apply the quantitative skills in machine learning, computational statistics and mathematical finance that are used within the financial markets and finance industry.

Our compulsory modules focus on the four elements of the core skill set needed for careers in finance: Financial Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Asset Pricing and Risk, and Simulation and Machine Learning for Finance. In line with these modules, you will also learn programming for Quantitative Finance, focusing on C++, Python, and R.

This degree allows you to develop an in-depth knowledge of the language and culture of the Hispanic world while also exploring theatre and performance studies through both practice and theory.

You benefit from the full range of expertise on offer in both departments, including cultural and historical modules in the School of Modern Languages, and specialisms in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies including theatre in the African context, contemporary European theatre, applied theatre and playwriting.

There will normally be the opportunity to study abroad in your second or third year of study, immersing yourself in Hispanic culture, in Spain, the Caribbean, or South America.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you will move to a three-year. You will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

It is particularly suited to students with a technical background, who are looking to understand and develop management expertise.
