Biomedical Science involves the study of life processes in humans. The subject provides an understanding of the causes and consequences of human and animal disease, including infection, cancer and neurological decay.

The application of new biological concepts in medicine is an ever-growing and exciting process. Developments in molecular, genetic and cellular biology research continue to drive progress in areas such as vaccine development, neurogenerative diseases and metabolic diseases.

You will develop the hands-on lab, problem solving and research skills employer’s desire. If you are considering a career in medicine, we provide mentoring and support for medical school applications.

You can opt to take a year-long industrial placement or study abroad between your second and third years.

Study abroad

As an alternative to a work placement we support student mobility with the opportunity to apply for a year abroad at one of our partner universities all over the world. The Study Abroad Team supports these activities, and the School’s dedicated Study Abroad Co-ordinator will provide more specific information and assistance.

Your first year lays the foundations, including study of either Latin or Ancient Greek, while your second and third years offer an enormous choice of modules across all three departments.

Two of your core modules – Problems in Philosophy and Literature, and Textual Studies – are taught jointly across departments, giving you the opportunity to combine these interests directly.

If you wish to expand your experience beyond your study at Warwick, we can support you to apply for an intercalated year abroad or on a work placement. This extends the duration of your degree to four years, with your third year spent abroad or on placement, and will be reflected in your degree qualification (i.e. BA Philosophy, Literature and Classics with Intercalated Year).

This unique course provides training from three top departments at the University of Warwick: Mathematics, Statistics and Warwick Business School. Building on your strong mathematical background, you will develop and apply the quantitative skills in machine learning, computational statistics and mathematical finance that are used within the financial markets and finance industry.

Our compulsory modules focus on the four elements of the core skill set needed for careers in finance: Financial Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Asset Pricing and Risk, and Simulation and Machine Learning for Finance. In line with these modules, you will also learn programming for Quantitative Finance, focusing on C++, Python, and R.

This MA will enable you to study Philosophy at an advanced level, offering an extensive range of optional modules that give you the flexibility and the freedom to explore your own philosophical interests. The breadth and depth of research expertise in the Philosophy department means that we can offer you an unusually broad range of options for Master’s level study.

The Department has strengths across all core areas of analytic philosophy and continental philosophy, with particular strengths in: Philosophy of Mind and Psychology, Epistemology, Aesthetics, Moral and Political Philosophy, Post-Kantian Continental Philosophy, and 20th Century Continental Philosophy.

This joint degree aims to develop your understanding of technical and doctrinal aspects of the law, sociological theory and research, social problems, institutions and practices.

You will also gain a critical awareness of the role that law can play in contemporary societies and develop both contextual and professional perspectives on the law. This will help you position legal institutions, ideas and processes as an important part of society.

Within the subject of sociology, you will explore key phenomena and problems in contemporary society, which may include crime and justice, gender and sexualities, media, race and ethnicities, and global economies.

Study abroad

All students can apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities. The Study Abroad Team offers support for these activities, and the Department's dedicated Study Abroad Co-ordinator can provide more specific information and assistance.

This course is designed for technically-minded graduates with a background in computer science, mathematics or the physical sciences.

It provides a comprehensive preparation for the use of cutting-edge techniques in industry, though its research focus also makes it an excellent starting point for research career, through PhD study or in a commercial setting.

Specifically designed for students who wish to pursue an academic research career, the course offers first-hand research experience through placements in different laboratories, working on thematically related research. This lab rotation offers strong candidates for doctoral research more scope to explore different topics within their areas of interest than the traditional options at Master’s level.

Two placements taken during the course allow you to contribute directly to your chosen supervisors’ research. A subsequent research project then gives you the chance to put this experience into practice in developing your own area of study, supported through the advice of relevant academics. Political theory and international relations theory will provide the core of your studies in year one with progressively more optional choices throughout the degree.

With a 75:25 split between Politics and International Studies, and Chinese, this degree gives you the opportunity to acquire Chinese language skills while gaining a strong understanding of Politics and International Studies.

You will engage critically with the political world, from national and global perspectives, exploring the theoretical and empirical approaches to political ideas.

You will also study in China during your third year.

Our graduates leave with the ability to understand complex theoretical positions and apply them to political problems.

Our Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Rome MA courses provide a thorough preparation in research techniques if you are considering further research in the fields of art, numismatics or epigraphy, or are working on an historical topic that involves the consideration of material evidence. It will also provide a detailed understanding of ancient visual and material culture to prepare you if you are aiming to enter a career in museums and curatorial work, or in education.

For the Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Rome MA, one module is taught by the British School, Rome, focusing on the history and material culture of Ancient Rome. Please note admission is subject to the discretion of the British Schools and cannot be guaranteed by Warwick.

The degree is designed to introduce you to major issues in the study of ancient material culture, and to key methodologies and approaches. It will help to develop your intellectual skills in the following areas:

In this degree, there is an emphasis on the international dimensions of politics. While political theory provides the core of the degree, you can tailor your course to focus on your main interests within International Studies.

You will engage with core questions in political theory and how they apply to situations across the globe. You will confront how power is distributed internationally and evaluate the different ways in which societies organise their political systems. You will explore the ideological roots and gendered and racialised effects of world problems and interrogate the ways in which economic imperatives affect foreign policy.

Your studies will investigate how theoretical assumptions underpin political decisions and explore the concrete issues that are faced by individuals, governments and organisations around the world.
