Sociology – the study of humans in society – is at the heart of the roadmap towards a sustainable future. Each of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals has a sociological aspect, and understanding the social implications of world trade, economic growth, and climate change has never been more critical.

Since the birth of the neoliberal era, major global transformations have redefined societies across the world. Sociologists are now focusing on why the current organisation of society might itself be unsustainable, researching innovative solutions to develop social-environmental relationships that are less environmentally harmful.

On this course, you will combine sociological concepts, including race, identity, ethnicity, and gender, and apply these to global issues such as wealth inequality, elite power, and food security. Our transdisciplinary approach also gives you the freedom to research the topics that most interest you.

Our students are aspiring global citizens with social consciences. They’re flexible, adaptable and broad-minded.

By studying GSD, you’ll take a transdisciplinary approach and confront issues from a diverse array of perspectives. You will spend your first and second years at Warwick, studying abroad in your third year. You will then return to Warwick for your final year.

If you are a graduate looking to develop a career in international business, this course will give you the skills and knowledge needed to do business in a global context. You will develop an appreciation of the special requirements for successfully conducting business across national boundaries along with knowledge of relevant theories and their practical application to business cases.

There is a choice of Dissertation or Business in Practice route. If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to international business, the dissertation enables you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained.

If you would like to develop further applied skills to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with one additional elective module and our applied Business in Practice module.

If you see yourself as a research mathematician of the future, this course may appeal to you. For enthusiastic mathematicians, it is a chance to further develop your knowledge if you already have an undergraduate mathematics, physics or statistics degree. If your academic background is not in these areas, this course could still appeal if you are a strong mathematician looking for a return to formal education. Your studies will include a mix of lecture based modules and independent research.  

In your final year, you will be able to explore a chosen subject in depth and present your findings in a written dissertation.

Our MSc Finance and Economics course is ideal for you if you already have a strong grounding in economics, are highly numerate, and want to learn to apply your knowledge to finance.

You will explore the most advanced tools in finance, and use your economics background as a springboard to increase your career options. You will be considering jobs in the City or in the capital markets of your own country, in areas such as asset management, corporate finance, trading, financial regulation, and economic and financial consulting and central banking.

As the anticipation of jobs being challenged by Artificial Intelligence becomes a reality, we aim to share the skills and depth of understanding needed to design, develop, and supervise these new forms of financial intelligence.

This program provides you with a wide range of in-depth knowledge and skills, and enables you to focus on aspects of intercultural communication that are relevant to people working either in business or in other professions.

Our core modules develop your ability to analyse, explain and investigate effective communication across cultures. Optional modules enable you to select particular areas in which you want to specialise, according to your own intellectual interests or career aspirations.

The program concludes with an empirical piece of research, which will allow you to put your knowledge into practice and further hone your practical skills in carrying out systematic research.

This exciting new course is built on the strength of existing research connections between the four departments that will contribute to it: the departments of Economics, Psychology, and Philosophy, and Warwick Business School (specifically the Behavioural Science Group).

The current attention that this interdisciplinary field of research, particularly the area of Behavioural Science and Behavioural Economics, receives across academia, government and the private sector also makes this course an excellent preparation for a wide range of careers within local government, public health, media, charities and NGOs, marketing and finance.

You will have a choice of interesting potential specialisms and pathways through your course so that you can explore the issues that interest you the most, to graduate with either a BA or a BSc.

Students on all pathways take a course-specific co-taught core capstone module in the final year, which is designed to set the disciplines in interdisciplinary dialogue with each other.

Study abroad

You have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated study abroad year at one of our many partner institutions, extending your degree to four years.

As well as offering an opportunity to experience an alternative university system, studying abroad can also provide the chance to improve language skills and to gain an understanding of a country that can only be gained by living and working in it.

This wide-ranging, flexible degree is devoted to the study of the literature, history, philosophy, languages, art and archaeology of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds.

The course allows you to choose from a wide range of topics - such as gender and sexuality in antiquity, democracy and imperialism, ancient Greek theatre, Roman laughter, or the history of medicine - and to develop skills in literary criticism and historical analysis as well as in theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches to the subject.

Teaching is varied, innovative and interactive, and our students benefit from many hands-on learning experiences, including recreating the experience of a Greek symposium, visiting historical sites and museums in the UK, and taking part in our annual classical play.

Core first-year modules provide a grounding in approaches to Greek and Roman culture and society, and to delve into the wide range of ancient literature and thought. Our four-year Classical Civilisation with Study in Europe degree has a similar structure to our three year course, but alongside learning about the ancient world you will study a modern European language (current options are Italian or German) and spend your third year studying classical subjects at one of our partner universities in Europe.

Currently, placements are available in Bologna, Padua, Rome or Venice, with recent confirmation of new placements in Berlin and Tübingen, Germany. Confirmation of available placements will be made in your second year.

Do you want to become an expert in communicating scientific concepts? Whether you are preparing for a career in scientific writing, education or communication, this course is the one for you.

You will choose from over 50 modules and tailor the course to your specific scientific skills and interests. You will enhance your communication and English Language skills, learning to convey advanced technical scientific concepts for journals, classrooms, or the media.

You will also undertake a bespoke research project, gaining research experience using our state-of-the-art facilities in an interdisciplinary environment. You will gain advanced knowledge in your chosen fields and learn to communicate with a range of audiences, preparing you for a career in research, scientific writing, science education or science communication.

Cyber Security seeks to enable the good and prevent the bad in cyber space. For you to contribute to this task, you will learn a broad range of theory and practice. Most things will be viewed from two perspectives: what should happen, and what does happen. Many cyber security challenges lurk in this gap between concept and reality.

You will learn how to construct robust software. You will learn how to store data over time and communicate it over distance. You will learn how computer systems are organised. You will learn the capabilities of cryptographic techniques. You will learn the processes and procedures that provide assurance that things are as they should be. And you will learn the mindset, tools and techniques to discover the shortcomings of cyber systems, duly constrained by ethics and the law.

The course has a strong technical focus so that you understand precisely how the digital parts of cyber systems function. However, the role played by people, processes and the physical environment in achieving cyber security is also a critical part of your study. Taken together, you will learn how to harden the security posture of an organisation's cyber systems. You will learn how to think and act coherently in cyber space.

Cyber security professionals are in high demand by businesses worldwide, meaning you will have access to a wealth of potential career routes in a highly mobile profession when you graduate.

Our BSc Cyber Security is provisionally certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) at GCHQ.

Study abroad

It is unlikely we will be able to support student mobility through study abroad programmes. The very specific curriculum of BSc Cyber Security mean that an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities is unlikely to fit alongside the remainder of the curriculum.

This degree emphasizes the way in which social cleavages such as race, gender and class intersect with the study of crime and criminal justice in an international context. Combining these subjects will give you a thorough, yet broad understanding of the surrounding issues and concepts that relate to questions of justice and criminalization today.

Drawing on established strengths within our Sociology Department, you will explore a variety of areas: culture and ethnic identities, geopolitical conflict, gender, environmentalism, social movements, sexuality, social theory, state crime, terrorism and modern society, punishment and community justice, youth crime, youth justice, policing, and issues of security in a global context.

Study abroad

You have the option of studying abroad which will add one year to your degree, as you will spend your third year abroad. Immerse yourself in life in another country and grow as a global citizen. Explore other cultures, languages, and understand global connections and inequalities.
