This degree responds directly to the growing demand across research fields and by employers in society for a new generation of postgraduates who can critically engage with big data theoretically, methodologically and practically. In contrast to many big data-focused degrees (such as Data Science or Data Analytics) where the emphasis is almost exclusively on data practices and computational tools, this degree underpins key practical skills with a range of theoretical approaches to data.

How is our world influenced by big data? How are our lives represented in big data? This course will enable you, whatever your disciplinary background, to understand and act in a society transformed by data, networks and computation and develop a range of interdisciplinary capacities.

This course engages you in the systematic study of language with a specific focus on English. You will learn to analyse the structure of English, and the ways people use English to structure the world.

You will explore the evolution of English from a set of dialects on an island to a global lingua franca, and examine ways that English continues to change today. You will learn more generally about how language is formed, acquired, learned, and used. You will develop an extensive set of qualitative and quantitative research skills, and practise oral and written communication intensively.

You will be eminently employable in careers ranging from journalism, media, publishing and marketing to teaching English internationally, and may pursue further study toward fields like speech pathology or speech recognition.

Study abroad

If you wish to spend a year abroad (which we thoroughly recommend), this will take place in your third year, meaning that you will complete your degree in four years instead of three. All students have the opportunity to apply for an intercalated year abroad at one of our partner universities.

The Student Mobility Team offers support for these activities, and the Department's dedicated Study Abroad Co-ordinator can provide more specific information and assistance. Students who elect not to complete the year abroad, or who do not academically qualify for it, may complete the course without a year abroad.

As our global reach becomes increasingly important, there is a need and opportunity for organisations to connect together to deliver added value to the consumer through interlinked supply chains and efficient logistics.  

The central content is the concept of a supply network: constructing the relationships that bring it into being; commissioning the technologies that enable it to operate; managing the input, the material and the information flow; and distributing the product.  

During the course, you will develop the skills to evaluate, manage, and improve supply chain processes. You will learn to design and develop strategy, as well as understanding the operational functions of businesses.

With around 400 million speakers in the world, Spanish is one of the most important languages for commerce and cultural exchange.

This degree offers an innovative approach to studying the Spanish language alongside a diverse range of Hispanic cultures and history from across the world.

You will work with leading researchers and have access to outstanding facilities and resources; including flexible learning spaces and a vast selection of print, digital, and multimedia learning materials. You will normally spend your second or third year abroad, consolidating and enhancing your learning.

Study abroad

We strongly recommend that you take a year abroad as part of your modern languages degree, if you are able to. If you are unable to take a year abroad you may move to a three-year degree. In such cases, you will be required to complete further language reinforcement work. You will also be encouraged to spend time abroad in other ways, during vacation times.

You will usually spend your year abroad doing one of three things:

• Working as a language assistant teaching English in a primary or secondary school
• Studying full-time at a partner university in your chosen country
• On a work placement

Qualified electrical engineers are desperately needed by the power industry. There is also a severe shortage of power engineering expertise in other sectors, such as government bodies and finance organisations, where a detailed knowledge of energy supply and demand is increasingly important. This shortage comes as societies develop and adapt to pressing environmental and economic constraints, dwindling reserves of fossil fuels, and the emergence of new energy technologies.

This course will give you the knowledge and skills required for a career in electrical power engineering and is an opportunity to update your knowledge with the latest developments in renewable energy and smart grids.

In your first two years, you will concentrate on Physics modules, with the addition of a second-year Business module.

For your final year, you will transfer completely to WBS (Warwick Business School), where you will develop a critical understanding of how organizations work, how they are managed, and how they interact with local, national and international environments. You may, for example, take modules covering markets, marketing and strategy, finance, and entrepreneurship.

There is flexibility to switch into or out of the Physics and Business Studies stream onto one of our other courses at any time within your first two years.

Today, economic growth and business expansion must answer to critical concerns about environmental sustainability, biodiversity loss, and human exploitation. You’ll grapple with these debates, and reconcile them with your Business Studies modules.

Throughout your degree, we will challenge you to consider current problems of sustainability from many perspectives, understand their complexity and use a variety of approaches to think creatively about potential solutions.

The holistic approach taken with GSD will complement and challenge your studies with Warwick Business School (WBS), which has a worldwide reputation for its expertise in Business and Management.

You can enhance your skills and studies through optional work placements, study abroad, and certificates.

The MA in Applied Theatre: Arts, Action, Change is a taught postgraduate degree that addresses contemporary practice in applied theatre and socially engaged performance. It invites you to explore, make and interrogate performance practices that are broadly concerned with contributing to social change in a variety of settings (e.g. criminal justice, theatre for development, homelessness, learning disability, schools, the elderly and healthcare). With a strong focus on professional practice and development, the degree addresses the ways in which performance modes can contribute to different applied, community and institutional settings nationally and internationally.

It investigates the claims made about performance and its potential to be transformative and rehabilitative and tests these claims through close consideration of contemporary practices in the field. It also addresses the political and ethical implications that come into play and the importance of constantly questioning what is at stake when working in specific contexts. It explores what it means to be an artist working for change and aims to develop skills of project design, facilitation and evaluation.

This degree will help you to:

• Understand a range of socially-engaged forms of theatre and performance and how these vary in response to different contexts
• Develop practical skills specific to applied theatre environments that are responsive to the needs of different types of organisations
• Understand your own practice, while learning to design, manage and evaluate projects better, demonstrating an awareness of the possibilities and limitations of live performance and digital media in interventionist practices
• Develop advanced research and practice skills through a supported extended written or practice-based research project in the area of applied or socially-engaged theatre
• Confidently communicate your creative and critical thinking in well structured, logically developed and carefully prepared ways
• Further develop group cooperation skills, including the ability to give and receive constructive critical feedback, and improve your communication skills and advanced analytic abilities in discussions

This MA provides a thorough grounding in the skills and knowledge required to support the career development of others in a range of contexts. We will enable you to make a distinctive contribution to the field of career development and coaching studies through taught modules and independent research. The MA is approved by the Career Development Institute (CDI) as meeting the qualification requirement for the UK Register of Career Development Professionals.

Designed to bring out the beauty and universality of physics, our flexible Physics course provides broad and in-depth teaching that's informed by our research.

Core modules introduce and develop the fundamental concepts, such as those of quantum theory and electromagnetism, and cover the mathematics used in physics. Optional modules provide opportunities to see how the basic concepts can explain the phenomena we observe.

For the final year project, you will work as a member of one of the research groups on a year-long project to explore aspects that are not yet fully understood. We encourage you to apply for summer placements and projects, which enable you to complete a small research project supervised by a member of the academic staff.
