Archaeology is the gateway to our past. By studying material remains throughout history, we can explore what it means to be human.

We cover the whole of the human past, from human origins to contemporary archaeology. Our courses will develop your skills in a broad range of archaeological methods across the arts and sciences, through a combination of hands-on learning and small group teaching.

Study a language that is spoken on every continent. Spend a year abroad studying, working or teaching in a French-speaking country, consolidating your language skills.

Combine the study of French with investigations into the nature of language itself. You'll be taught your French modules in the target language, so you'll become confident using French as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. Your communication skills will be complemented by studying linguistics. This will enable you to understand and interpret language, and to learn the science behind how we communicate. The course has flexibility in terms of how much French and linguistics content you study over the four years. Your knowledge and understanding of how a language works, and how we communicate, will give you a solid foundation for many careers.

In studying linguistics you will be learning the science behind how we communicate. This course is designed for you if you possess a strong background principally in computer science, design, or information technology and want to gain expertise and industry relevant practical skills in iterative, user-centred approaches for designing positive user experiences (UX) with interactive technology.

The course emphasises design that is driven from a deep understanding of users, through the use of qualitative and quantitative research techniques drawn from the diverse fields of cognitive psychology, computer science, sociology and beyond. You will gain expertise and skills in eliciting and analysing the goals of potential users, designing usable and inclusive user journeys, and evaluating the quality of user experiences with interactive technologies: all skills in demand in modern, UX related careers or in postgraduate study.

With continuing advances in technology, high user expectations and increasing statutory requirements, there is a high-demand for skilled engineers in electronic computing.

Unlike pure computing degrees which often concentrate on the software, scientific and mathematical aspects of computing, this course will provide you with a wider range of engineering skills, including in hardware and applications of computing to electronic systems. The course draws from the expertise of the Intelligent Systems and Nano-science Research Group at York.
