Develop your skills in economic analysis and quantitative techniques.

This course emphasises problem-solving and practice in economic theory, applied economics and econometrics. You'll have opportunities to study areas of application at the frontiers of economics such as experimental economics, regulatory policy, industrial organisation, intertemporal and international macroeconomics, financial markets, and labour economics.

Students who have a Bachelors degree in Economics with a very high average mark and a research proposal of outstanding quality can apply for the 1+3 PhD. This gives you the chance to first study for a Masters then a PhD in Economics.

This History and Philosophy degree will give you a broad understanding of forces that shape societies and cultures, and of the issues involved in critical philosophical thought.

Historians look to understand past societies and analyse processes of historical change. Philosophers dissect world views and understand the past in relation to the present. Psychologists use observation and experimental evidence to understand the relationship between our sensations and actions but also the intervening processes that underlie our behaviour. Social psychology studies interactions, group behaviour and culture. Cognitive neuroscience examines the mechanisms of the individual brain, right down to its cells and the connections between them.

Nanotechnology encompasses the design and study of devices on a scale of less than 100nm - barely a few hundred atoms across. From ultra-high-speed processors to super accurate sensors, nano-scale devices are transforming science and technology across a broad spectrum of fields, including microelectronics, data storage, medicine and the environment.

Drawing on the expertise of nanotechnology research groups at York, this course emphasises those areas of nanotechnology directly relevant to contemporary electronics. Any consideration of the human past is incomplete without examining the essential roles that animals have played in our economies and societies. On this course you will study archaeological animal remains on a macro and micro scale to investigate what they tell us about how humans and other species have co-existed over the millennia.

The scope of the course is global, equipping you with the knowledge and techniques to study the roles of animals in human societies from the Palaeolithic to the present and around the world. You will have the opportunity to select modules taught by leading academics in both traditional and biomolecular zooarchaeology, and options led by dedicated specialists in evolutionary anatomy, enabling you to master the latest analytical techniques and examine skeletal anatomy.

Our unique Environment, Economics and Ecology degree focuses on ecosystem services - the processes by which the environment produces the resources we need such as clean air, water, food and materials.

Our health and wellbeing depends upon these services and our use and management of these natural resources. We study the links between human and natural systems, and the need for a holistic socio-ecological approach to understand challenges and solutions to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
