This MA offers the opportunity to study the complex issues and debates within women’s studies and gain a critical understanding of the intersections between feminist thought and wider social and cultural debates. An emphasis on practical research and feminist methodologies will equip you with the advanced research skills to enable you to conduct a substantial piece of independent research.

Founded in 1984, the Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) at York is the home to a thriving international community where you’ll study alongside prominent academics in an array of related fields, from queer studies to feminist theory, political violence, activism, and masculinity. You’ll benefit from interdisciplinary teaching and research which is supported by the departments of English and Related Literature and Sociology.

With continuing advances in technology, high user expectations and increasing statutory requirements, there is a high-demand for skilled engineers in electronic computing.

Unlike pure computing degrees which often concentrate on the software, scientific and mathematical aspects of computing, this course will provide you with a wider range of engineering skills, including in hardware and applications of computing to electronic systems. The course draws from the expertise of the Intelligent Systems and Nano-science Research Group at York.

This course will consolidate your knowledge of fundamental principles and introduce you to more advanced concepts. You'll experience a large team software engineering project, as well as managing a substantial individual project, allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills required to become a leader in the industry. With an increased choice of advanced option modules, you'll have the opportunity to engage with world-class researchers and work with our latest innovative technology.

Our BA History of Art will give you three distinctive and complementary years of studying the history of art and architecture.

You'll start with a year-long introduction to the history of art and then build on this, in years two and three, with rounded training in the discipline and practice of art history. The interdisciplinary nature of art history allows you to develop your existing skills and interests and is reflected in our close relationship with other departments and centres in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

We'll introduce you to an extraordinary variety of art and architecture from many areas, including Europe the Americas, but also covering the Middle East, North Africa, and East, South and South East Asia. You can also study an exciting range of time periods, from the late antique to the contemporary.

History of Art is a traditional humanities subject with a strong vocational element, allowing you to develop valuable transferable skills. We have partnerships with the Tate, the National Gallery, the V&A and York Museums Trust. We also work on art beyond the museum and gallery system, including with partners in country houses, maritime museums, and churches. These partnerships contribute to the teaching and research in our department and you'll benefit from our collaborative links with these institutions.

The MA in Comparative and International Social Policy will train you in comparative and international policy analysis, research and design.

It is ideal for those working or hoping to work in international policy analysis and policy development in governments, charities and NGOs around the world.

This MA is especially suitable for:

• graduates from degrees in social policy, politics, sociology, international studies or other social sciences
• graduates from other backgrounds who wish to develop a high quality of graduate level research training in social research methods and policy analysis
• graduates who wish to develop an understanding of comparative and international welfare institutional arrangements

This MSc in Mathematical Sciences will develop your mathematical knowledge through a range of modules concentrated on one of our research specialisms in algebra, number theory, geometry and analysis, mathematical physics and mathematical biology. It will provide a bridge to world-class research in one of these areas.

It combines both traditional mathematics subjects with advanced courses that will prepare you for an array of numerate and analytical professions to be found at the core of the digital economy as well as prepare you for a PhD or other research paths.

The programme is built around core dissection-based modules covering the whole body. You will carry out whole-body dissection in small teaching groups during formal dissection sessions, and at your own pace in your own self-directed learning time, using cadavers embalmbed with both Thiel, that ensures material is as close to living tissue as possible, and Formalin, that keeps the material in defined anatomical relationships.

This programme also provides a comprehensive professional education that focuses on developing teachers and researchers of anatomy. You can choose from a range of Education electives, where you will study alongside students on the MSc in Health Professions Education programme, accredited by the Higher Education Academy. Your research project/dissertation will also cover an educational topic.

You will have the unique opportunity to learn from experts in their field who are at the forefront of new developments in clinical anatomy and health professions education, as well as visiting surgeons and consultants. As well as learning from their expertise, you will be challenged to think differently and learn skills to become a self-directed learner as you continue to develop your anatomy knowledge throughout your clinical career – and ultimately make a difference to patients’ lives.

You will benefit from guest seminars from visiting surgeons and consultants, who will bring patient cases to share with you, so you can apply your knowledge to a clinical setting. These experts come from a range of specialities including plastic, thoracic and orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, radiologists and emergency medicine doctors.

You can choose to study full-time for one year, or part-time over two or three years to fit around your work and home life.
