This course is for students from around the world who wish to pursue a career in teaching foreign languages. It will extend your knowledge of the processes that underpin and facilitate foreign language learning.

The course is designed for experienced language teachers. You should have at least 12 months' experience of full-time, classroom-based teaching (or equivalent).
The one-year programme is designed for students with at least one years teaching experience who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning of any second or foreign language/s. It is expected that students will already have an understanding of the main approaches to language teaching and language analysis. The course will provide rich opportunities for reflection on practice, and for the development of the understanding underlying principles and theories of language teaching and learning. There is also a broad range of option modules to choose from. Teaching and learning activities include presentations by the tutor, small group discussions and practical activities (individual and pair work). Summative assessments take the form of written assignments, exams, oral presentations and dissertations.

This MA offers the opportunity to study the complex issues and debates within women’s studies and gain a critical understanding of the intersections between feminist thought and wider social and cultural debates. An emphasis on practical research and feminist methodologies will equip you with the advanced research skills to enable you to conduct a substantial piece of independent research.

Founded in 1984, the Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) at York is the home to a thriving international community where you’ll study alongside prominent academics in an array of related fields, from queer studies to feminist theory, political violence, activism, and masculinity. Archaeology is the gateway to our past. By studying material remains throughout history, we can explore what it means to be human.
