BA Archaeology and Heritage brings together a depth of knowledge about the human past with a practical understanding of why that knowledge is important for society today. You'll explore different interpretations of heritage and gain practical skills in communicating our past to the public. You'll delve into questions tackling the conflict around heritage and explore how we can protect it for the future.

Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience explores how the mind changes as children grow up, examining the environmental and biological influences on the developing brain.

You'll be provided with perspectives from developmental cognitive neuroscience and developmental and cognitive psychology, and receive hands-on training in brain imaging methods.

You'll explore topical issues such as the neural bases of perceiving, acting in the physical and social world, the development of emotion regulation and pro-social behaviour, and neuroeducation.

Gain a unique perspective on landscape archaeology as you focus on human ecology and the interactions of people with their environments. You'll examine case studies from many different periods and areas around the world to understand different approaches to the study of landscape change. You'll also investigate the varying lifeways of humans through the ages, and how people have interacted with the natural world since early prehistory.

With guidance from leading researchers and experienced academics, you'll develop your understanding of the recognition, recording, interpretation and conservation of archaeological landscapes and build key practical skills in surveying, GIS, geoarchaeology and aerial photography.

Research-led teaching with a multi-disciplinary focus will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex environmental problems such as climate change, air pollution and energy transitions.

Our distinctive MA in Early Modern History combines thorough research training with opportunities to explore new approaches to the history of early modern Britain, other European countries and their overseas empires.

You can take advantage of the research strengths of the Department, which include the political, religious and cultural history of early modern England and Europe, gender and social relations, science and material culture and the history of ideas. With full access to our excellent library, the Borthwick Institute for Archives and the York Minster library, specialist resources will be available at your fingertips.

You'll be taught in German and Spanish, so you'll become confident using your languages as a means of communication, and for critical thinking. You'll gain an understanding of German and Spanish culture and societies which will underpin your abilities as a high-level communicator in both languages.

Your communication skills will be complemented by investigations into the science and structure of language through a range of linguistics modules. The course has flexibility in terms of how much German, Spanish and linguistics content you study over the four years. Our Genetics course examines how the massive innovation in DNA sequencing technologies has revolutionised our knowledge and understanding of living systems, and makes it a particularly exciting time to be studying this subject.

This course is ideal if you want an interdisciplinary approach to Genetics. You will have a wide range of options to tailor the course to your developing interests.

Genetics encompasses the molecular studies of genes and genetic engineering, through human genetics and disease, to population genetics. Our increasing knowledge of the human and other genomes will continue to have a great impact on biotechnology, medicine and conservation.
