Our BA Human Geography and Environment builds the skills, knowledge and capacities for understanding and developing solutions for pressing 21st century social and environmental challenges. It draws on cutting-edge insights from human geography and environmental studies to critically explore the complex relationships between people, places and environments. It explores challenges and solutions to real-world problems, such as inequalities in global development, how to achieve inclusive and sustainable change, creating sustainable food and transport systems, and the challenges of moving to sustainable consumption.

Our BSc Mathematics and Physics programme gives you access to the combined expertise of the Departments of Physics and Mathematics. Economies across the world are changing at a rapid rate. This course will teach you the methods used for analysing economic data and equip you with the mathematical and statistical skills to advise businesses on economic policies, predict patterns of behaviour and reduce the risks involved in financial decision making.

To create sustained fusion reactions, fusion fuel must be heated to 100 million degrees. The fuel is rapidly converted to plasma, which is extremely difficult to confine and control. New international facilities using high-energy lasers and superconducting magnets are crucial steps on the way to reliable fusion energy but there are still many challenges to overcome.

This MSc will prepare you to address these challenges. You will be introduced to the skills in computational and experimental plasma physics, and conduct cutting-edge research under the guidance of physicists at the York Plasma Institute.

Philosophy and Linguistics come together to create a fascinating and challenging degree which will provide you with a deeper understanding of what language is, while also enabling you to form carefully considered opinions, and think seriously and independently about major philosophical questions.

You will immerse yourself in the study of language examining syntax, phonetics, phonology and semantics. This will culminate in the realisation of how we express ourselves through language - an important aspect of what makes us human, and a key to examining your own nature and that of the world around you.

Develop your mathematical and statistical skills and prepare for a career in quantitative business analysis.

You'll learn to use sophisticated tools from a broad range of mathematical disciplines, such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, to sharpen your mathematical and statistical reasoning. Alongside this, you'll develop an in-depth knowledge of the context in which business analysts, quantitative finance officers ('quants') and operations managers work.

You'll expand your knowledge of theoretical concepts, with a particular focus on finance and operations. Spending a year in industry is an opportunity to apply the techniques you learn to practical business problems.
