The Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders is a preprofessional degree program which provides students with academic and practical preparation considered essential for success in the Communication Disorders graduate program.

The undergraduate curriculum offers students a broad base of preparation in general education requirements, the sciences associated with communication and its disorders, anatomy and physiology, and a number of basic methods courses associated with the identification and treatment of a variety of communication disorders.

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program, a one-year master’s degree plan consisting of 30 semester credit hours, is designed for all engineers on management career paths as well as for those charged with managing technology in engineering, manufacturing, and other high-tech organizations. The MEM degree program will also benefit engineers pursuing licensure in states where candidates for professional licensure are required to have an additional 30 semester credit hours of coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in engineering. The curriculum consists of courses offered by the A-State College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Due to the flexible scheduling of our courses, the program accommodates working professionals seeking career advancement and/or career changes as well as recent graduates desiring to move into positions with management responsibility.

Program Outcomes
Program graduates will have:

• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to identify critical issues, formulate realistic solutions, evaluate alternatives, and solve technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to interpret statistical or deterministic models and concepts as well as apply them to technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to express alternatives and solutions dealing with technical problems.
• Graduates of the Master of Engineering Management program will be able to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.

Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. Students completing this degree program will have the skills and competencies necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate effective health-related programs. Graduates often find employment in public health agencies, clinical facilities (hospitals and medical clinics), worksite wellness departments, or voluntary agencies.

The Civil Engineering Programs at Arkansas State University are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.  Civil engineering is the application of math, science, and engineering fundamentals for the benefit of society and the supporting infrastructure systems.

Civil engineers are involved in the following areas:

• Environmental Engineering (pollution control including the design of water and waste water facilities)
• Water Resources (study of the flow of water over land, under ground and storage)
• Transportation Engineering (design of highways and studies of traffic flow)
• Structural Engineering (design of building, bridges and other related structures)
• Geotechnical Engineering (study of soil behaviors, land slides and other topics)

Civil Engineering at A-State
The civil engineering program of ASU offers courses in all areas of civil engineering with a strong general education component. The faculty is involved in research, solving engineering problems in the community, consulting work. These experiences are brought into the classroom so students receive a well-rounded educational experience. This includes learning the engineering theory as well as the practical application of the theory to real world problems.

Program Educational Objectives

The program educational objectives for the civil engineering program, which pertain to program graduates 3 to 5 years after completing the program, are:

• Graduates have successfully advanced in civil engineering practice as evidenced by their achievements and contributions to their employers and the greater engineering community.
• Graduates have pursued graduate degrees, obtained professional licensure, and/or completed professional development activities in continuing to advance their knowledge base in civil engineering or related professional fields.
• Graduates are actively working to improve their community and society in general by utilizing and sharing their engineering expertise.

Student Outcomes
The Student Outcomes for each of the undergraduate engineering programs are:

• An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;
• An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;
• An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
• An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts;
• An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives;
• An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions; and

The Masters of Science in Environmental Sciences (Non-Thesis, Practicum) is designed to provide all students with a cross-disciplinary introduction to environmental science. Students are required to complete an Internship external to the university. Students are also required to complete all MS core course requirements which include taking one class in each of three categories: Environmental Chemistry/Soil and Water Science, Environmental Policy, Law & Economics, and Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies.

Each student will also take 1 credit hour of Ethics, 2 credit hours of Seminar, 6 credit hours of Statistics and 6 credit hours of Internship. In addition, each student will normally take courses in their specialty area sufficient to bring the total number of credits to the minimum of 30 required for the MS in Environmental Sciences beyond the Bachelor of Science Degree.  Any additional course work requirements will be determined by the MS Practicum Advisory Committee to meet the student's specific program needs.

MS Practicum students are required to take a Qualifying Examination, complete a final Practicum Report and publicly defend their completed Practicum Report. Passing all requirements implies that the student has the necessary knowledge and sufficient critical thinking skills to advance toward completion of the Masters of Science Degree (Non-Thesis) in Environmental Sciences.

The Design & Technology emphasis includes elective courses in costume, lighting, scenic and sound design, as well as courses in drawing, stage management, makeup and costume construction.

Private and group singing instruction, scene study, musical theatre performance and a variety of dance courses are essential components of the Musical Theatre emphasis.

Emphases  in Acting

Students in the Acting emphasis select elective courses in scene study, dance, voice and speech, movement, stage combat, audition techniques, and Shakespeare performance.

The Sport Administration is a Master of Science Program in the Department of Health, Physical Education & Sport Sciences at Arkansas State University. It is designed as a full-time, 36-credit hour program that serves today’s working professional and/or full-time student. The program serves graduate students interested in professional management or administrative opportunities in professional sports, interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics administration, sports facilities, sports media, and sports marketing and management agencies.

The goal of this program is to balance theory and practice in order to best prepare each graduate for employment in the field of sport administration. Each student will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the management, business, socio-cultural, ethical and legal applications in the administrative capacities within amateur and professional sports environments. Future employment for Sports Administration graduates would consider employment within intercollegiate athletics (including athletic departments, conferences, and national associations), professional sport organizations (teams and leagues), sport facilities, sports tours, motor sports, corporate sports organizations (sports agencies), and the sports media.

The Sport Administration graduate program will allow students and professionals to receive an advanced level degree that will develop their knowledge and skills to successfully prepare them in their chosen careers. As an applied field of administration, it is essential that students be able to incorporate information learned through this program, their own work experience, and cultural backgrounds and apply these to current or future employment. Both theory and practice will be incorporated into the curriculum in which instruction is enhanced by sport administration professionals, site visitations, research, and group projects designed to learn competent and applicable sport administrative practices.

Our geographic area exposes students to a variety of sports industry professionals and organizations (Memphis Redbirds, Memphis Grizzlies, Memphis Riverkings, Verizon Arena, FedEx Forum, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Arkansas Travelers, Arkansas Naturals, Arkansas Twisters, Arkansas State University Athletics, Jonesboro Parks & Recreation, Memphis Parks & Recreation, University of Memphis Athletics, University of Arkansas Athletics, Sunbelt Conference, Southeastern Conference, and Conference USA). These entities can provide students networking, and volunteer opportunities.

Students will be immersed in a required core of courses and an internship or thesis. Students will also be required to successfully complete comprehensive exams (excludes successfully defending thesis).
