Bachelor of Arts in Spanish

at California State University - East Bay USA

Overview

The program offers students the ability to learn speaking, writing, and analytical skills in Spanish and has been designed to provide students with the cultural understanding and the academic knowledge necessary for future pursuits in various careers, especially in teaching Spanish and Spanish American literature and culture at multiple educational levels.

Recently CSUEB was declared a Hispanic Serving Institution due to the demographic impact of the Latino/Hispanic population in California, particularly in the East Bay area. With the growing involvement of the United States in international business and the increasingly multicultural character of American society itself within the exponential growth of its Latino, Hispanic population, the importance of Spanish in nearly every kind of occupation is considerable. A major in Spanish, therefore, may lead to teaching careers and represent direct, practical assets in other fields such as business, industry and commerce, civil service, law, library science, media, science, health services, social work, travel, and tourism.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

It deals with the study of anything that has been or is alive: microbes, fungi, plants, “protists” and all animals, including humans. The science of biology includes a large number of highly integrated sub-disciplines such as microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, physiology, systematics, and behavior. Biologists must draw upon a wide variety of academic disciplines to make observations and form conclusions, and well-trained biologists have solid backgrounds in chemistry, mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics, and the humanities, as required by graduate programs and professional schools, to meet the demands of professions in the life sciences.

The BS in Economics trains students in the tools of economic analysis and exposes them to a great breadth of areas in which those tools can be used to tackle problems, including international trade and finance, labor markets, industry structure, firms’ business strategy and competition, public policy and management, the environment, health care, economic development and income inequality, corporate governance and entrepreneurship, money markets and Federal Reserve policy, and law. The program provides rigorous analytical training and quantitative and programming skills that equip students to correctly formulate (and solve) complex problems in the preceding areas and in the daily decision-making and financial planning of their everyday lives.
