Diagnostic medical sonography (DMS) is a multi-specialty profession which utilizes high frequency sound waves to image the human body. Sonographers use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and applied critical thinking to assess function and the presence of disease processes. Sonographers work under the guidance of an interpreting physician in a variety of health care settings. Concordia University offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The degree includes two years of core requirements and prerequisite classes specific to the major.

Objectives

• To monitor the community needs for sonographers and respond to those needs.
• To monitor the practice of Sonography within our community and adjust our academic and clinical training to meet those needs.
• Facilitate, monitor, and support the implementation of best practices in sonography education.

Let’s talk about the long term. Upon graduation you’ll have acquired the skills and knowledge and a year of practice experience to immediately enter into generalist professional practice. Computer scientists are instrumental to anything and everything that involves computers. And let’s be honest, pretty much everything today involves computers. Robotics, virtual reality, and videogames are often cited as future job areas, but you could also be a part of many other fields—animation, music, automobiles, analytics…the list goes on.

What comes to mind when you think of computer science? In our modern world, there are decreasingly fewer things that don't rely on computers and technology in some shape or form, making computer science one of the most practical and versatile fields of study out there. At Concordia, we define computer science as solving problems using technology. If you can learn to create and manage technology solutions, you can apply your skills to just about any career path.

With five different concentrations available and substantial flexibility in electives, you have the power to customize this degree and make it your own. In this program, you'll receive a well-rounded education through the Concordia Core, as well as a firm foundation of computer science knowledge through our Technology Core. You'll learn the ins and outs of hardware, software, operating systems, databases, coding, and user interfaces. From there, you can branch out into one or more concentrations of computer science, specializing in the areas that are of most interest to you. You can use your electives to earn multiple concentrations, or to explore coursework in any other field at Concordia, broadening your knowledge base.

A good manager can adapt to almost any business structure in any industry. Because managerial skills are, for the most part, universal. This program will allow you to explore how businesses are structured and provide you with the skills you’ll need to succeed in almost any environment. You’ll gain mastery of current software for designing and managing business projects, while adopting proven project management tools and techniques at each stage in a project’s lifecycle. You’ll gain an understanding of how to integrate organizational strategies that involve the parent, supplier, and sub-supplier organizations working together in domestic and global environments.

You’ll also gain practical knowledge of marketing tools, market segmentation, research analysis in decision-making, media and promotion, budgeting, and evaluation. From developing a comprehensive and viable business plan to setting and obtaining investment objectives – such as capital, debt, securitization, and government subsidized options – this program will arm you with a variety of applicable skills. And you’ll learn about small businesses too, the way management is applied. Most importantly, you’ll acquire skills and experience that’ll help you become the well-rounded and insightful leader your organization deserves, whether you’re in small business, investments, or real estate.

To be successful within this program, you must possess an exceptional drawing ability. Because we want you to have every opportunity to develop your skills, CUW has partnered with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to create the illustration bachelor’s degree. Your 18 credits that take place at MIAD allow you to use the very latest in illustration concepts and technologies. Most of your classes (all core requirements, over half major requirements, and your minor) will be taught right on the CUW campus. You will experiment with both digital and physical illustration mediums to develop your own unique illustration style. Because aspiring illustrators need to distinguish themselves in the workplace, we recommend choosing a compatible minor in business or marketing.

Illustration is a very competitive field, demanding excellent drawing skills and the ability to produce images quickly and meet firm deadlines. You can anticipate this same rigour during your time as a student. Faculty will expect you to spend a substantial amount of each day on observational drawing to improve your technical abilities. A great deal of patience, self-discipline, and dedication will be asked of you. Upon graduation, you will be well-equipped to create both physical and digital drawings for books, magazines, websites, and other media.

Throughout history, mathematics has played an essential role in leading humanity to new discoveries and technological advances. In fact, some of the most important achievements of our time would not have been possible without the field of mathematics. Whether you’re looking to help progress technology or you want to use your gifts to help consult businesses, our bachelor’s degree in mathematics will teach you the skills you need to have an impact.

One of the reasons that mathematics is so appealing is because it’s true. You can solve the same equation for X over and over again and the answer remains consistent. In our mathematics program, you’ll find satisfaction in discovering the right answer and enjoy the challenge of a complicated problem. Throughout the program, you’ll learn how to use computers and computer systems for problem solving, explore the relationship between a Christian worldview and a technological science, and complete a research project on a mathematical topic of interest. Every step of the way, you’ll have experienced professors guiding you. You’re not a number at Concordia - you’re a student who will get to know your professors and receive meaningful mentorship.

As a graduate of the mathematics program, you’ll have a deep comprehension of (and appreciation for) areas like calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, geometry, abstract algebra and real analysis. You’ll be able to solve and understand differential equations, sequences and series, vector-valued functions, partial derivatives, functions and algorithms. And you won’t be graduating with only math skills. Because you take liberal arts courses for your core requirements, you’ll leave the graduation stage with stronger communication skills, a better understanding of other cultures and an appreciation for the social sciences - all while having opportunities to explore and strengthen your faith.

What comes next? You’ve completed your professional undergraduate preparation in occupational or physical therapy and you're looking into your options. Perhaps the best route is to continue in a master's program that is specific enough to further your career, yet expansive enough to continue creating options for you.

The Master of Science in Rehabilitations Science (MSRS) is a great option for you, because it allows you to continue broad-based learning at an advanced level. Our courses emphasize studying and applying evidence of what truly works to practicing patient-care. This means we prioritize evidence and clinical-based learning, which gives you the opportunity to put theories into practice. You’ll learn the speciality areas within clinical practice, the research know-how to further advance the field, and the leadership skills that allow you succeed in any setting.

This program will help you develop your understanding of major events and themes across the eras. You’ll learn about global history and the philosophy of history, and you’ll gain the skills necessary to read, write, speak of, and teach about history. From ancient civilizations to modern Europe, from Asia to America, from politics to economics, from the history of warfare to the history of food, clothing and sports, studying the past helps us to learn about human nature and thus, ourselves. Is there a particular aspect of history that interests you? As a CUW history student, you’ll get to choose an area of emphasis in American, European, or Global history - so you can focus on what you’re passionate about.

Studying history involves more than reading books.  Your learning will revolve around a process that is applicable in many other fields. You’ll start by locating, evaluating, and organizing historical information. Once you have digested the content and various views, you can begin to develop the historical information into written or oral form. Through this repeated procedure, you develop your ability to summarize, analyze, organize, and synthesize texts from a variety of sources. Wherever your career takes you, you’ll be able to use this process to research, understand and analyze information to make important decisions and gain new insights.

If you welcome a challenge and are passionate about helping others, a career in speech-language pathology or audiology is right for you. Our Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) major is offered by of the Speech-Language Pathology Department at Concordia University Wisconsin. It begins with foundational knowledge of speech, language, hearing, swallowing, normal lifespan development, and leads to hands-on experiences with children and adults with communication disorders. Whether you choose a career in speech-language pathology or audiology, both require a graduate degree to enter clinical practice.
After your introduction to normal speech, language, hearing and swallowing development and disorders, you’ll get hands-on experience through community service learning and clinical observation experiences. As a senior, you may have the opportunity to gain supervised experience in our forthcoming on-campus clinic.

• Knowledge in basic speech, language, communication and swallowing processes.
• An understanding of evidence-based prevention, evaluation and intervention practice for speech, language, hearing, communication, and swallowing disorders.
• Effective verbal and written professional skills.
• Professional interaction skills with patients, families, and other health care professionals.
• Ethical and professional behavior in clinical care through service learning and/or clinical services in our forthcoming on-campus Interprofessional Education (IPE) clinic.
• The completion of 25 required hours of clinical observation.

Our graphic design courses prepare you for careers in both digital and print design. In order to offer the fullest education possible, Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) has partnered with the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), which is just a 25-minutes drive from our Mequon campus. Most of your classes (all core requirements, over half major requirements, and your minor) will take place at CUW. Because we have a lab specially designed for our graphic design students, you’ll be able to work on your projects right on campus. Only 15-18 credits of your classes will take place at MIAD. It is worth noting that while graphic design is a highly-demand career, we highly encourage you to  pursuing a complementary minor, such as business or marketing.

The classes you will take in this program will lay the groundwork of good design principles that will guide you through the rest of your career as a designer. Much of your learning will  occur outside of the classroom. Why? Because outside the classroom is where you’ll be putting into practice the design principles you learned in the classroom, developing your creative ideas and completing projects.

As a CUW graphic design student, you will have opportunities to work on professional projects with real-world clients. This, in addition to regular coursework, will contribute to your professional portfolio, which will be published (physically or digitally). One final note on what to expect: in order to be successful, it is critical that you meet project deadlines during your time with us. The faculty are always happy to work with you, so don’t be afraid to ask them for advice.
