The purpose of this program, offered as a major or minor, is to assist you as you discover the gifts and talents God has given you for service. Although you will not train as a missionary, you will be studying how mission work is accomplished around the globe. A key element of this program is recognizing and deliberating on the challenges that arise in the mission field. Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to participate in spring break mission trips, Missions Club, and global trips that will provide you with hands-on experience.

Neither the missions major or minor is a training program. Mission groups (such as LCMS World Mission) train their own missionaries to prepare for the specific areas where they’ll be sent. The goal of our program at Concordia is to help you decide if God is truly calling you to serve as a missionary.

Several of our theology faculty have a great deal of experience in mission work and will mentor you as you explore the possibilities. By the end of the program, you’ll be well-acquainted with the urgent need for missionaries and be prepared to decide if and how you want to serve. You’ll also leave with a better understanding of how to work in cross-cultural settings, how to navigate other religions, and how to handle the challenges that come with missionary work.

This program nurtures the ability to engage in systematic thinking and provides you with the critical distance to call culture’s dominant assumptions into question and form your own responses. You’ll be immersed in the great conversation of history’s deepest thinkers, trained in logic and ethics, and able to defend faith and human dignity. At this point in time, philosophy has never been so vital – or applicable – to everyday life.
This is a program intended for lovers of wisdom. You’ll develop a trained mind that thinks clearly, precisely, and rigorously. This program will introduce you to the central texts of the world’s greatest ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary thinkers. You’ll learn the methods of careful definition, logical analysis, and argumentation. In addition to core foundations of a robust philosophy program, our program has special emphases on apologetics, moral philosophy, bioethics, human rights, and human dignity. It all boils down to this: the CUW Philosophy program will prepare you to be a thinker. And since you’ll be able to specialize in any area of philosophy that interests you most, you’ll experience the true thrill of charting your own intellectual course in life.

You will leave a different person than when you arrived. Your mind will be an interesting place, full of curiosity, wonder and intellectual fulfillment.  Upon completion you should feel equipped for either additional graduate-level study  or entrance into the professional world. Not everyone immediately sees the connection between a degree in philosophy and success in the business world, but even a quick glance at some of the top CEOs and entrepreneurs in America shows one thing in common - a philosophy degree. It should come as no surprise that critical thinkers, who think analytically and deeply about problems, would quickly rise to the top. Perhaps most importantly, you will learn how to engage with society’s dominant discourses and trends from a whole different angle than the majority of your peers.

Computer scientists are instrumental to anything and everything that involves computers. And let’s be honest, pretty much everything today involves computers. Robotics, virtual reality, and videogames are often cited as future job areas, but you could also be a part of many other fields—animation, music, automobiles, analytics…the list goes on.

What comes to mind when you think of computer science? In our modern world, there are decreasingly fewer things that don't rely on computers and technology in some shape or form, making computer science one of the most practical and versatile fields of study out there. At Concordia, we define computer science as solving problems using technology. If you can learn to create and manage technology solutions, you can apply your skills to just about any career path.

With five different concentrations available and substantial flexibility in electives, you have the power to customize this degree and make it your own. In this program, you'll receive a well-rounded education through the Concordia Core, as well as a firm foundation of computer science knowledge through our Technology Core. You'll learn the ins and outs of hardware, software, operating systems, databases, coding, and user interfaces. From there, you can branch out into one or more concentrations of computer science, specializing in the areas that are of most interest to you. You can use your electives to earn multiple concentrations, or to explore coursework in any other field at Concordia, broadening your knowledge base.

Everywhere you go, you see the work of marketing professionals, whether it’s a billboard, a TV ad, a social media post or a brochure. In a world where everyone is vying for attention, you need to learn how to be strategic with your message. That’s why we created this program. Our experienced professors will help you discover how to plan, implement and manage marketing tasks like market segmentation, use of media and promotion, budgeting and evaluation. You’ll learn how to research your audience and share your message using the best channel - so you know you’ll be heard.

Being part of a diverse student body means that you’ll have the opportunity to hear other perspectives and think outside of the box. Together, you’ll gain practical skills to effectively employ marketing strategies like direct mail, lead generation, loyalty programs, social-marketing, store-traffic building and pre-selling in all types of media from print and broadcast to the web. You’ll also develop the confidence to organize a sales force through training, compensation, supervising and motivation. As a graduate of our MBA in Strategic Marketing, you’re going to understand the measurability and accountability of direct marketing and how it relates to your company’s overall strategy. You’ll have the practical skills you need to research how to market your products and the confidence to carry out your marketing strategies, no matter what platform you decide to use. Plus, you’ll be familiar with the tools and applications of the social media revolution and be ready to plan, implement, manage and measure your efforts.

Study how to create complex hardware and software systems, manage complex computer information systems (IT), and lead a technical team. Now offering two new tracks in Software Engineering and Computer Information Systems. Both of these tracks will build on your existing experience by deepening your skills and knowledge in the main areas of computer science. A bachelor's degree in a related field is recommended, but not required. Optional catch-up modules are available for each course to help bring you up to speed.

Upon completion of the MSCS program, you’ll be trained in problem solving, collaboration, creative design processes, professional literature, writing, presentation, and ethical practices. You’ll be prepared for advanced professional positions in software development and other technical/design-oriented roles in computing.

Our computer science master's program was designed with working professionals in mind. You’ll get a rigorous, quality education that fits within your busy schedule. All courses will be available online in an accelerated eight week format, but three courses per semester will be offered face-to-face on campus.

Information Systems

While software engineering focuses on the development of technology solutions, information systems puts a greater emphasis on the application and management of technology solutions. The specialization courses explore advanced networking, hardware and software system design, integration, and administration in the context of current emerging technologies.

This is an intense field, and it takes a lot of work and dedication to prepare you for your Society of Actuaries Exams. That’s why it’s an incredible benefit to you that our program consists of small class sizes to maximize the personal attention you get from your professors. It really makes all the difference, and will get you where you need to go quicker.

The program itself encompasses a three-part curriculum that includes a liberal arts core, a business common body of knowledge, and a specialization in actuarial science. So in addition to classes like Econometrics, International Business, and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, you’ll round out your education with classes in literature, history, and theology.

Yes, it’s demanding. But it’s incredibly rewarding as well. High school students are encouraged to get as many AP credits as you can before you begin the actuarial science program. Once you’re in the program, we strongly encourage you to take (and pass, obviously) your SOA Exams P and FM while you’re still in college. It’s especially important for you to pass your Exam P before or during your junior year, because it’s the only way you’ll be able to secure an actuarial science internship.

Whether your work in a hospital, a volunteer-based organization, government agencies, lobbying for legislation, university or a church, nonprofit and government organizations require a special skill set to motivate teams, implement new programs and bring a mission to life. You need a wide range of knowledge about public relations, program evaluation, board governance, fundraising and volunteer recruitment. With an MBA in Nonprofit Management and Public Administration, you’ll gain the practical knowledge you need while receiving a holistic, faith-based education.

Our MBA in Nonprofit Management and Public Administration combines the strength of the MBA curriculum with the deeper study of management issues and operations unique to nonprofit organizations and government agencies. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experts in the field who bring their real-world experience into the classroom. They’ll immerse you in subjects like governance and board development, fundraising and budgeting strategies, volunteer recruitment, public and intergovernmental relations, financial and legal issues, program evaluation and fraud prevention.

Our bachelors in accounting is focused on well-rounded preparation, gearing students for success in all realms of accounting practice and providing them with the knowledge base required for key certifications including the CPA, CMA, and CIA. And in the process, you’ll be made ready for a career in private industry or public accounting, with courses covering a lot of ground — from Intermediate and Cost Accounting to Individual and Corporate Income Tax.

You will learn to understand and represent the myriad complexities of business transactions, processes, and strategies through an accounting based framework founded on GAAP and IFRS. Specifically, you will develop competence across a wide range of accounting knowledge and practices:

• Gathering and recording financial information, with its compilation and communication
• Applying best practices in budgeting, planning, and forecasting
• Supporting and integrating business operations through cost accounting and advanced analytics
• Establishing internal controls to support ethical business operations and reporting
• Developing and providing effective financial audits
• Reporting for non-profits, state governments, and partnerships

Science aims to understand the incredible intricacies of God's creation. It all starts with a question, which leads to research, forming a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis, and analyzing and communicating the results, which often leads to new questions. This scientific inquiry is what leads to theories and laws that observe and describe the world around us.

In this program, you'll study everything that exists in the earth's environment, from the plants and animals to ecosystems and climate patterns, and how they all correlate. Two concentrations are available; ecology and environmental chemistry. Both tracks take a deep dive into a wide variety of scientific disciplines, with each specialization putting an extra emphasis on ecology or environmental chemistry respectively.

The environmental science major explores the physical, chemical, and biological properties and processes of our world. The program seeks to help students grow in the following six areas:

• Knowledge base: demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to explain major biological and related scientific concepts.
• Laboratory procedures: demonstrate the ability to appropriately collect and analyze data while utilizing laboratory equipment and procedures safely and effectively
• Scientific inquiry: develop investigative and critical thinking skills to explore complex questions and solve challenging scientific problems
• Scientific communication: demonstrate the ability to communicate scientific information effectively to both scientists and non-scientists using oral and written forms of expression
• Vocation and ethics: recognize how vocations in science provide opportunities for service to Christ and others and necessitate ethical behavior in all aspects of science
• God’s design and stewardship: demonstrate an understanding of how/why a Christian sees evidence of God’s design in nature and how to be good stewards of His creation

This concentration in leadership along with the MBA core courses will prepare you to problem solve through practical applications for decision-making in the dynamic business environment. Pairing this core with a concentration in leadership gives you a specific focus on leadership with emphasis on understanding yourself as a leader, leading teams, and leading organizations.Your studies will combine theoretical study of leadership with the practical techniques and skills required in today’s organizations. You’ll discover your leadership strengths and integrate your technical competencies to lead teams and organizations. You’ll graduate with a strong set of business competencies by understanding the qualitative and quantitative data that drive business decision-making, all while building the “soft skills” that will make you a more effective leader in your organization.
