Science aims to understand the incredible intricacies of God's creation. It all starts with a question, which leads to research, forming a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis, and analyzing and communicating the results, which often leads to new questions. This scientific inquiry is what leads to theories and laws that observe and describe the world around us.

In this program, you'll study everything that exists in the earth's environment, from the plants and animals to ecosystems and climate patterns, and how they all correlate. Two concentrations are available; ecology and environmental chemistry. Both tracks take a deep dive into a wide variety of scientific disciplines, with each specialization putting an extra emphasis on ecology or environmental chemistry respectively.

The environmental science major explores the physical, chemical, and biological properties and processes of our world. The program seeks to help students grow in the following six areas:

• Knowledge base: demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to explain major biological and related scientific concepts.
• Laboratory procedures: demonstrate the ability to appropriately collect and analyze data while utilizing laboratory equipment and procedures safely and effectively
• Scientific inquiry: develop investigative and critical thinking skills to explore complex questions and solve challenging scientific problems
• Scientific communication: demonstrate the ability to communicate scientific information effectively to both scientists and non-scientists using oral and written forms of expression
• Vocation and ethics: recognize how vocations in science provide opportunities for service to Christ and others and necessitate ethical behavior in all aspects of science
• God’s design and stewardship: demonstrate an understanding of how/why a Christian sees evidence of God’s design in nature and how to be good stewards of His creation

The classical education program comprises an interdisciplinary course of study in classical studies and classical teaching methods, grounded in the liberal arts tradition with a strong foundation in the Lutheran heritage. The complete classical education program at Concordia is comprised of our classical studies major (which provides you with a classical foundation) and the classical pedagogy minor (where you’ll learn how to teach according to classical principles).

Students can anticipate engaging the liberal arts at all levels of the program. You will gain a solid foundation in classical culture and the Christian intellectual tradition. You will explore the history, theory and practice of a classical approach to curriculum and pedagogy. You will develop a thorough knowledge of biblical content and demonstrate an understanding of the Christian worldview from a Lutheran perspective. Upon graduation, you will have the broad content knowledge and practical experience that classical schools are looking for in teacher candidates.

The aim of Concordia’s program is to prepare you for a career in the biochemical industry or to pursue graduate studies to earn a PhD, an MD, or a PharmD. Expect to be challenged on a regular basis. Our professors have designed a rigorous curriculum to help you advance as a scientist and develop analytic reasoning.

A significant portion of your studies will take place in our recently constructed laboratories, with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Whenever possible, our faculty take a hands-on approach to learning, so you can expect to quickly become comfortable in a lab setting. You’ll gain a thorough foundation in the various areas within chemistry, including organic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry and within biology, including molecular biology. And CUW students aren’t limited to the required courses for developing their skills. If you have a particular area of interest, you have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a faculty member in conducting an undergraduate research project.

It’s not a chicken-or-the-egg sort of thing. The truth is, humanity and the marketplace enjoy a symbiotic relationship. Both have seen their ups and downs. Both have been the cause and the effect. This program explores the economic problems faced by individuals, business, and nations by offering courses in the historical, practical, theoretical, and empirical aspects of economics. You will graduate with a firm understanding of the basis of the discipline and be prepared to position yourself and your organization to survive and thrive in any environment. You’ll be qualified to seek employment in the private, public, or nonprofit sector or to seek advanced degrees and graduate study.

You might expect to master the models and competing theoretical frameworks that shape economics in a program like this one – and you’d be right on the money. You’ll also study the factors that drive human behavior in the marketplace and the principles and theories of macro and micro-economics. You’ll look at consumer demand for goods and services, and the ways in which economic policy impacts national welfare. And don’t worry, you’ll study enough inflation, unemployment, and economic growth to satisfy your itch.

The bachelor’s degree in interior architecture and design is a cooperative program with MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design). To quote MIAD’s program description, “Our interior architecture and design program is built on the premise that spaces and their furnishings can affect people in deep, meaningful ways.” In this program, you’ll get to experience the Christian liberal arts perspective of Concordia while pursuing a rigorous design program at MIAD. You’ll combine theory and practice to solve visual and spatial problems in the classroom and with real-world clients.

During your time here, you’ll take the majority of your classes (including the Liberal Arts Core, the majority of your major, and your minor) right on the CUW campus. You’ll go to MIAD for the remaining 24 credits (six credits per semester over the course of two years). Many graduates have also paired this major with a complementary minor in business, entrepreneurship, or art to further their abilities and career endeavors.
When you graduate with a degree in interior architecture and design, you’ll have a deep understanding of color and media dynamics, 3-D modeling, and computer-aided design (CAD) drawing. You’ll have as strong foundation in the liberal arts (including history, english, communication, and the social sciences) with hands-on experience working with clients. You’ll even complete a senior portfolio to show the work you’ve done during your time here. Whether you go on to work as an interior designer, a facility planner or a model builder, you’ll have the foundation and skillset you need to build a future in interior architecture and design.

As a working adult, you know that we are living in a data-age, and you see this area as a growth opportunity in your career. Now is the time because the demand for professionals with business analytics skills is growing. Most companies are generating, collecting, and storing information that is used to drive up the value of their business. This fast-growing career path has applications in every industry and companies of all sizes.

This master’s program focuses on how the family relates to society. With a strong emphasis on counseling skills, you’ll be given a great opportunity to bring Christian compassion and understanding to the challenges that face modern families. This program teaches you how to help parents, teachers, and students face the challenges that confront them. You’ll learn skills that will allow you to positively impact a child’s well-being and equip parents to navigate today’s culture.

People think just because they communicate daily – both verbally and in written form – they don’t need to spend the time it takes to truly become adept at communicating. But even naturally gifted communicators can benefit from this program. During your time here, you’ll have the opportunity to study topics such as: public relations and press releases; group dynamics; leadership communication; interviewing strategies; conflict management skills; servant leadership; public speaking; social media theory and history; cross-cultural communication, and more. You’ll also have internship opportunities that will give you real-world experience to bring to your future workplace. Becoming a strong communicator is one of the best ways to ensure that you make a big impact in the world of business.

At the end of this program, you will not only be a stronger communicator, but also a better leader. You’ll know how to work with diverse groups, identify key messages worth sharing, and lead others by example. You’ll join the workforce with the hands-on experience needed to deliver your message -whether you’re communicating in the office, with friends and family, or to the media.

The field of public health, “promotes and protects the health of people in the communities where they live, learn, work, and play” (American Public Health Association). It is a very diverse, crosscutting discipline with vast opportunities, in both public and private sectors, at the local, state, and national levels. This degree offers a Lutheran Christian perspective on public health and prepares you to serve Christ around the world as a globally minded citizen working to protect and promote the public’s health. It is an engaging, multidisciplinary educational program filled with practical application opportunities to prepare you to be a strong, competitive candidate in the public health sector.

In this degree program, you will have the opportunity to personalize your concentration depending on your interest. Regardless of which concentration you choose, all undergraduate students will complete a minimum of 120 credits, including 45 credit hours of general education core curricula, 25 credit hours of required public health coursework, and 3 credit hours of a culminating/capstone project
