The Bachelor of Arts degree is appropriate for those preparing for teaching careers in the physical sciences at the secondary level, as well as those whose goal is a liberal art education with an emphasis on physics, or engineers interested in a double major.

The bachelor of science degree in Earth Science is designed for those students considering a professional career in environmental, geotechnical, or engineering geology. The program also provides a fundamental education in geology that prepares students for graduate studies in the geological sciences. The required curriculum includes surficial geology courses (geomorphology, hydrology) not required as part of the B.S. in Geology. Earth Science majors must receive a grade of “C” or better in all courses required for the major. A minimum of 120 units is required for the bachelor of science degree. Transfer students should attempt to fulfill, prior to transferring, the appropriate lower division curricular requirements as outlined below. In particular students should take prior to transferring the equivalent of GEOL 102 and GEOL 104, and at least three of the following four: CHEM 111A, CHEM 111B, MATH 122, and MATH 123.

This is a comprehensive physics master’s degree with plans in General Physics or Computational Physics.

This option is designed to provide the student with curriculum activities that combine one or more option areas into a program of study. This option is developed by the student with the advisement of a graduate faculty member and/or the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. A statement of rationale for the proposal must accompany the program of study.

The mission of the graduate program in Computer engineering and Computer Science at CSULB is to provide a high-quality educational experience and the technical specialization required to become successful leaders in industry. The program also prepares the students to pursue advanced degrees if they so desire. The graduate program involves advanced courses in analysis and design in computer software and hardware. The students may choose to do a thesis or take a comprehensive examination as the culmination of their program.

The Department exists to promote a broader and deeper understanding of the role that leisure and recreation provides in the lives of all people as well as to enhance the quality of Recreation Leisure experiences available to each person. This program is designed to accommodate the needs of new college students, continuing students, transferring students, and experienced recreation professionals.

Students intending to transfer from community colleges to this University are advised to complete general education requirements while attending the community college. Other recreation courses taken at community colleges cannot be substituted for upper-division recreation courses. Student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA on all units attempted and achieve a “C” or better in each course of the Recreation major to progress in the sequence of study. Students earning less than a “C” grade in a course required in the major must repeat that course.

What Do You Do with a Degree in Religious Studies?

kandinsky KW iAlmost anything! Religious Studies is one of the four best majors to help you score high on the L.S.A.T. (Law School Admissions Test). Our students go on to other advanced degrees, become religious professionals, secondary and higher education teachers, librarians, educational entrepreneurs, managers or aid-workers in NGOs, writers or performance artists, business managers, and the like. William Bao Bean, an American venture capitalist in Asia, tells us that he only supports the ventures of Humanities majors because they have the critical and innovative mindset to be successful.

The Sport Psychology and Leadership option provides rigorous training and exposure to the mental aspects of movement and sport and requires 120 units of study. This option has two concentrations – one in Sport Psychology and one in Leadership. The course work for both concentrations is the same except for the activity courses and the elective courses. The option is designed for students interested in careers in: 1) sport psychology; and 2) coaching outside the public school system (K-12), e.g., sport management/leadership; coaching professional athletes, coaching youth-sport athletes, and coaching in sport academies. Many students also consider pursuing graduate education.

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program provides an intensive and fast-track 30-unit degree program to enable its cohort students to earn their graduate degree in 12 months. It is designed to help students identify and analyze various financial management issues to make optimal strategic decisions in today’s global economy. With its focus and alignment to the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) curriculum, the program offers students an excellent opportunity to learn practical investment skills and a comparative advantage to ultimately earn the CFA charter, while attaining a reputable MSF degree.

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies is an interdisciplinary degree program designed to provide a rigorous introduction to the complex interrelationships that exist among societies in the modern world. It combines the study of international relations, global and development issues, and contemporary belief systems with a concentration on a major world area. In addition, the degree aims to equip students with the skills in language, analytical thinking, research, and economic literacy that are necessary for graduate study and careers in international fields.

Students in the International Studies program receive direct exposure to an international environment by participating in a foreign study program or an internationally-oriented internship in the United States. Because of its interdisciplinary nature, this program emphasizes the ways in which the expertise and methodologies of various disciplines contribute to the understanding and resolution of international issues.

The program provides a broad understanding of international issues and world cultures through exposure to the various methodologies of the social sciences and liberal arts. It offers pre-professional study for careers in government, communications, business, law, journalism, and international non-profit organizations. Students are encouraged to combine a major in International Studies with a second major or minor in a field appropriate to their career plans.
