The objective of the international business option is to prepare students for the increasingly competitive and interdependent international business world with which they must cope. There is great and growing need for American business school graduates to be better informed about how to compete and do business outside the U. S. as well as in the U. S. market where much of their competition is from foreign firms. Students need to understand how international business practices and customs differ from those in the U. S. They need at least some familiarity with a language other than English as well as with cultural diversity and world geography.

Computers are one of the essential modern tools used to solve a physical problem or simulate or model a real system. A student choosing Computational Physics will acquire practical skills on how to solve differential and integral equations how to model a system and write a program that allows calculating quantities that can be compared with experimental data or predict the outcome of an experiment. The skills are universal in the sense that they may be applied to any field of Physics.

History is a discipline at the core of the liberal arts tradition. It seeks to preserve, extend, and reevaluate our study of the past, and to connect it with the present. Students who specialize in History are typically those who plan to teach, practice law, or enter government service; but History students also go into business, librarianship, foundation work, management of local history projects, and fundraising. Some history alumni have become successful writers.

The Master of Arts in Education, Option in Curriculum and Instruction, Secondary Education (30-33 units) is designed to foster the development of educators who are caring, effective, reflective, and committed to improving their schools. Coursework prepares teachers to apply theoretical insights and research findings to the practical problems they encounter in their work in curriculum and instruction.

This program prepares students to become professional nurses. Two distinct categories of students are eligible for admission: The “Basic” program student who enters the University without having completed a first level nursing program (diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing) and the “Registered Nurse” student who, having completed an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), desires further study to expand their nursing capabilities to the BSN professional level.

The “Basic” program student is eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to practice as a registered nurse (RN) upon completion of the program. All graduates are recommended for certification as a public health nurse in the State of California.

The Printmaking program incorporates a number of historical media including etching, lithography, relief printing, monotype, and screen printing while expanding upon emerging photographic and digital processes. Emphasis is placed on both unique/individual images and the multiple.

The Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering (MSAE) program aims to provide students with advanced training in sub-disciplines of aerospace engineering that combines modern engineering practice and rigorous theoretical framework to enhance students’ pursuit of professional careers and doctoral studies. The Master of Arts in Human Experience Design Interactions (MA_HXDI) is comprised of 33 semester units. The program prepares students and/or returning professionals from diverse undergraduate backgrounds for advanced multidisciplinary design work in careers of their choice. Through the MA_HXDI program, students will develop expertise in the tools and methods of experience design as a strategy for making and adding value to systems, products, spaces, and services. Through a diverse faculty and collaborations with leading organizations, students will use cutting-edge technology tools while developing novel solutions to complex challenges. These tools provide both the quantitative data to support the qualitative research of human-centered design, as well as the digital interactions of contemporary human communication and experience. This ‘theory plus practice’ approach prepares students to smoothly transition into the broad spectrum of professional design roles, from design research to interaction design. Through research labs in the department of design, students have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research, independently and through collaborations with business, government, education, entertainment, health care, and technology organizations. These collaborations provide students with highly sought after knowledge and skills for advanced design work.

A core mission of our program is to provide high-quality graduate training in marine biology research. Students interested in marine biology-related topics enter the Master of Science in Biology program and work directly with marine biology faculty to design and carry out basic and applied research projects. Graduate work in marine biology at CSU Long Beach provides students with solid training in experimental design, field and laboratory research, statistical analysis, and science communication. These skills permit our graduates to pursue a wide diversity of science-related careers, including teaching at the community college level, work in biological consulting firms, or positions in regional, state, or federal resource management agencies. Many of our graduates also continue their studies in Ph.D. programs, opening up even more career opportunities.

The German Master of Arts program focuses on cultural studies topics and skills regarding foremost literature, cinema, philosophy, and pedagogy. Students are encouraged to study at German-speaking universities and the program assists with overseas study plans. For graduate students interested in multimedia teaching technology, the program provides special projects and practical opportunities. Teaching Assistantships are available.
