The BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science, offers a course of study combining dance with specific kinesiology and science courses for students interested in teaching careers in dance, dance medicine, careers in dance fitness, or graduate education in the areas of dance science or related dance studies. Students interested in the BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science should meet with Program Coordinator Brooke Winder no later than the start of their 2nd year (earlier for transfer students). Additionally, students must pass BIOL 207 , BIOL 208 , and DANC 260 with a minimum GPA of 2.25 to satisfy the major specific declaration requirements. Graduate study in Recreation Administration prepares students for advanced careers in the field of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. Through a combination of online and traditional classroom instruction, students explore the theoretical foundations of the field while developing the administrative and management skills needed to become managers of private, commercial, and public recreation agencies. Students may also focus on research design and methodology in preparation for a research-based position and/or doctoral studies.

CSULB’S Masters degree in history is ideal for students planning to pursue Ph.Ds, for secondary teachers, for professionals seeking a graduate degree, and for lifelong learners.

Our graduates have gone on to doctoral programs at Princeton, Yale, Cornell, UCLA, University of London, University of California at Santa Barbara, and University of California at San Diego among others. Other graduates are successful secondary teachers and community college faculty, and professionals working in government, real estate, business, and the National Park Service.

This five-semester program offers students close contact with faculty mentors, rigorous training in historical methods (critical analysis, synthesis and writing), and an opportunity to tailor their programs to pursue specific interests in U.S., European, World History, and Ancient and Medieval History.

Students build expertise in two fields of concentration and choose among three final projects: Comprehensive Exams, a thesis, or a teaching unit (primarily for secondary teachers).

The primary goal of the undergraduate program is to provide our students with a broad education in normal and disordered processes of speech, language, hearing and swallowing. This goal has the following objectives:

• Provide our students with an understanding of normal development in speech, hearing, language, swallowing and communication
• Provide our students with an understanding of the genetic, cultural, neurological, physiological, psychological, and socioeconomic factors which can disrupt normal development in speech, hearing, language, swallowing, and communication
• Prepare students for professional graduate training as speech-language pathologists.

The Master of Music degree program provides professional concentrations in Composition, Conducting-Instrumental, Conducting-Choral, Jazz Studies, Opera Performance and Instrumental/Vocal Performance.

Our mission is to educate capable professionals who can effectively develop, manage, and enhance business information systems for better operations and decision making. Information Systems is to analyze, design, develop, and manage business information systems for effective operations and decision making. A successful information system student must excel in both in-depth understanding of business context, and solid technical abilities.

This option has an emphasis on systems management, information process and analysis, and new uses of information technologies and management information systems for business applications and decision-making. Also included are application development, e-commerce, business telecommunications, and decision technologies.

What Do You Do with a Degree in Religious Studies?

kandinsky KW iAlmost anything! Religious Studies is one of the four best majors to help you score high on the L.S.A.T. (Law School Admissions Test). Our students go on to other advanced degrees, become religious professionals, secondary and higher education teachers, librarians, educational entrepreneurs, managers or aid-workers in NGOs, writers or performance artists, business managers, and the like. William Bao Bean, an American venture capitalist in Asia, tells us that he only supports the ventures of Humanities majors because they have the critical and innovative mindset to be successful.

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers three concentrations: Asia Area Studies; Asia and Business; Asia and Globalization. All of these concentrations share a common core. Beyond the common core requirements, students select elective courses from one of the three concentrations to complete their 39 unit requirement for the major. Regular consultation with an advisor is highly recommended. Because of the importance of statistics to this discipline, students are advised to include STAT 108 among their GE courses. A “C” grade in all required and elective classes in the major is required for continuation of the program. It is also suggested that students take AST 320 or AST 336 for their required Upper Division WI Capstone course. The composition program at CSULB provides students with advanced skills covering a wide range of compositional techniques and technologies in order that they become more informed, literate musicians, better prepared to develop their own unique creative compositional voice. The program provides a robust and cooperative musical environment where students have ample opportunities to have their work performed. Skills taught include: beginning and advanced film scoring, advanced theory, electronic and computer music, experimental music and digital media, sound design, advanced topics in listening and analysis, song writing, music theater, music and dance collaboration, sound engineering and recording.

This degree option prepares students to become professional composers in various contemporary styles and media including contemporary classical, film and electronic arts, theater, computer music and mixed media. It also prepares students for further study at the graduate level with goal of teaching at the college level.

According to the curriculum guideline of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Computer Society, Computer Engineering is a field that encompasses both computer science and electrical engineering. It is ‘the discipline that embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment.’ (Taken from their Computer Engineering Curricula Report, p.9). At CSULB, the computer engineering program emphasizes the design, implementation and application of digital and embedded systems. Graduating students will be able to take an idea from conception to design and implementation (including circuit design and programming) and then testing, prototyping and demonstrating a working solution. CSULB offers a hands-on program where students are presented the opportunity to experience the complete cycle from conception to working systems.
