Our graduate program offers rigorous philosophical training in a supportive environment, and is ideal for those who are looking to be more competitive in pursuing doctoral studies (either in Philosophy or related fields), as well as those seeking only a terminal MA. The program is also suited for students who were not necessarily undergraduate philosophy majors or else need additional preparation or qualifications before pursuing work at the doctoral level or in professional programs in medicine, law, technology and business, science, etc.

The opportunity to explore a particular area of interest is provided by additional elective courses in the senior year. Several industry and professional society sponsored scholarships and internships are available to upper division mechanical engineering students. The undergraduate program in mechanical engineering offered at the Long Beach campus accepts both freshmen and transfer students. Students are admitted to the program following the university admission guidelines for freshmen and major specific admission criteria for transfer students.

The curriculum is designed to supplement mathematics, science and basic engineering courses in order to give students the specialization needed in different areas of aerospace engineering. In addition to acquiring technical knowledge, graduates will have completed appropriate courses in communications and in humanistic social studies.

Reflecting our college’s philosophy, the French and Francophone Studies Program is designed to develop cross-cultural awareness and to foster international understanding in a global world, an imperative need for our student body which is increasingly multi-lingual and multi-national, and comes from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our program adds an exciting new dimension to the traditional curriculum by incorporating interdisciplinary and multi-media courses on the French and Francophone worlds. Our faculty is committed to excellence in teaching, as well as accommodating students’ needs, areas of interest and expanding their knowledge in the field. A degree in French places the world of international communication and culture at your fingertips. As one of the foremost languages of global diplomacy, international relations and business, and scholarship, a degree in French leads to careers in a number of exciting fields. It is also the preferred language for academic pursuit in the social sciences and critical studies. The Francophone world only begins in France, stretching far beyond the Champs-Elysées into Africa, Quebec, the Caribbean, and Tahiti. Additionally, a double major or a minor in French enhances any other degree program, making the student doubly marketable upon graduation. They pursue professions in teaching, business, travel, and diplomacy, to name only a few, continue their studies within our own M.A. program or pursue doctoral programs at Ph.D. granting institutions.

The Art History program provides the necessary research skills and information to enter the professional fields of teaching, museum work, art gallery management, art consultancy, arts management, and art writing. The diverse curriculum offers specialty courses on both Western and non-Western (i.e. Asian, African, Native North American, Pre-Columbian, etc.) societies. Art historical methodologies are included in courses in historiography, art theory, art criticism, art and anthropology, and museology.

The Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration degree program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is fully online, and prepares graduates for organizational leadership and senior-level positions across the emergency services sector. The program's high-quality, wide-ranging courses engage students in theory and research that inform the management of disaster risk. Program coursework culminates in projects or theses that directly strengthen students’ organizations and communities.

The EMER program at CSULB was named in the Top 5 of the Guide to Online Schools in their 2020 Best Value Colleges (based on tuition rates and salary data) and 2020 Most Affordable rankings.

In recent years, emergency services professions have become extremely competitive, with demands for personnel to further their education to attain promotion and keep up with technical advances. Those in the following fields are well-suited for this program: firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency medical services personnel, and disaster response planners within government, business, and industry.

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program provides an intensive and fast-track 30-unit degree program to enable its cohort students to earn their graduate degree in 12 months. It is designed to help students identify and analyze various financial management issues to make optimal strategic decisions in today’s global economy. With its focus and alignment to the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) curriculum, the program offers students an excellent opportunity to learn practical investment skills and a comparative advantage to ultimately earn the CFA charter, while attaining a reputable MSF degree.

This option is available in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. It was introduced in response to a certification process developed by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). NCFR is the leading national organization for professionals concerned with promoting and enhancing the quality of family life. NCFR sponsors the only national program to certify family life educators.

Education in Geography at the graduate level at CSULB provides an opportunity to broaden one’s intellectual life and to acquire or upgrade knowledge and skills for many careers. The degree is particularly suitable for those graduates with one of the following professional goals:

• Advanced graduate work at the doctoral level
• Community college and K-12 teaching
• Public sector work (e.g., urban planning, environmental management, geospatial analyst)
• Private sector work (e.g., market area analysis, environmental and geospatial consulting)

The profession is focused on student-centered learning, drawing upon an established and growing body of research, based in traditional disciplines, emerging theoretical perspectives, and principles of human diversity and potential.
