The MS in Psychology, Option in Human Factors, is designed to prepare students to apply research-focused human factors skills to the design of jobs, information systems, consumer products, workplaces, and equipment in order to improve user performance, safety, and comfort.

The Rhetoric and Composition option is designed for students who desire to write for multiple readers and to analyze and interpret texts. This option prepares students for teaching on virtually all levels, for graduate study in English, and for professions that require intensive writing and communication skills.

We offer a strong program with a substantial emphasis on novel research and defense of a thesis. Our M.S. Chemistry and Biochemistry graduates often go on to Ph.D. and professional programs, while others pursue careers in industrial settings or teaching.

The BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science, offers a course of study combining dance with specific kinesiology and science courses for students interested in teaching careers in dance, dance medicine, careers in dance fitness, or graduate education in the areas of dance science or related dance studies. Students interested in the BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science should meet with Program Coordinator Brooke Winder no later than the start of their 2nd year (earlier for transfer students). Additionally, students must pass BIOL 207 , BIOL 208 , and DANC 260 with a minimum GPA of 2.25 to satisfy the major specific declaration requirements. Illustration

Students in this track will take a series of courses to help them develop skills for the field of illustration. Professional illustrators create work for a wide variety of applications. Some examples are: editorial work for magazines and newspapers, comics and graphic novels, textiles/clothing and the home and gift market, technical and biomedical illustration, entertainment (storyboards and visual development) and advertising. Students will focus on building their skills in drawing, painting and conceptualizing to create strong work geared towards their area of interest using their particular strengths.

Animation

Students in this track will focus specifically on creating a body of work involving moving images. Examples include: a traditional hand-drawn animation reel, a 3D digital animation reel, an experimental animation reel (this refers to inventive non-traditional methods of animation using a variety of materials and methods, such as stop-motion animation), or a short animated film using any or all of the previously listed approaches. Students making a film will write, design, storyboard and animate their own film.

Pre-Production

Students in this track will focus specifically on building skills for working in the pre-production phase of film, television and game projects. Some examples of pre-production art are: character design, storyboards, background painting, layout, visual development (which usually involves the visualization through illustration of environments, props, etc. in the early stages of a project, such as a film, episodic TV/Cable/Internet, or games), digital modeling (building 3D models digitally of characters, props, vehicles, and sets). Students will take courses with assignments geared specifically to these goals.

This program is designed both for students who wish to pursue further graduate study and those seeking a terminal degree. The program seeks to blend theoretical and applied aspects of linguistics and draws from a variety of disciplines.

This degree track welcomes applications from composers who are working with live technologies (and perhaps mostly—or even exclusively--creating new works that exist without a traditional score), and we also welcome applicants who don’t necessarily define themselves as composers at all, but as sound artists and other creators working with sound in various ways in conjunction with other media. Students working in the Composition with Interactive Media track realize new works in conjunction with their work with the BCCM Laptop Ensemble and often collaborate with colleagues in other departments and programs on campus, including art, computer science, dance, design, and film & electronic arts.

This program prepares students to become professional nurses. Two distinct categories of students are eligible for admission: The “Basic” program student who enters the University without having completed a first level nursing program (diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing) and the “Registered Nurse” student who, having completed an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), desires further study to expand their nursing capabilities to the BSN professional level.

The “Basic” program student is eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to practice as a registered nurse (RN) upon completion of the program. All graduates are recommended for certification as a public health nurse in the State of California.

The aim of the M.A. program is to prepare students to achieve an advanced knowledge of Italian language, literature, history and culture, and of the methods of scholarly research. While a Ph.D. program is the next step in the path of some students, others choose careers in education, international business, arts management, fashion, or any profession with international reach and global interaction. A limited number of Teaching Associate positions are available to qualified candidates after a course in language pedagogy.

The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health?related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.
