The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health?related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.

This new degree program is aimed at pre-professional students, who will be able to use many professional school pre-requisites to fulfill their elective unit requirements

The composition program at CSULB provides students with advanced skills covering a wide range of compositional techniques and technologies in order that they become more informed, literate musicians, better prepared to develop their own unique creative compositional voice. The program provides a robust and cooperative musical environment where students have ample opportunities to have their work performed. Skills taught include: beginning and advanced film scoring, advanced theory, electronic and computer music, experimental music and digital media, sound design, advanced topics in listening and analysis, song writing, music theater, music and dance collaboration, sound engineering and recording.

This degree option prepares students to become professional composers in various contemporary styles and media including contemporary classical, film and electronic arts, theater, computer music and mixed media. It also prepares students for further study at the graduate level with goal of teaching at the college level.

The Finance option provides an understanding of the role of finance in the corporate and international environment and an understanding of investments at both the corporate and personal level. This option provides an understanding of the role of finance in a business context, including the development of a comprehension of business ethics.

Finance Consists of three interrelated areas:

• Financial Management: which involves the actual financial management of a firm as well as the theory of finance applicable to all other areas of finance;
• Investments: which focuses on the decision of investors as they choose investment securities and manage their investment portfolios;
• Money & Capital Markets: which deals with security markets and financial institutions.

This degree major is designed for students pursuing careers that involve the study of life. This general option is designed to expose students to a wide range of biological topics and is the most flexible option in terms of courses required. With the right elective choices, this option can work for students planning on future careers in health professions or graduate and professional studies in Biological Sciences. Students may not combine this option with any other in the B.S. in Biology nor with the B.S. in Marine Biology or Microbiology as part of a dual major. This option requires approximately 78-82 units in the major, of which 37-39 are in lower division and 41-43 are in upper division.

This master's degree provides foundations and practical skills for individuals seeking career growth in educational, corporate, and public service settings that use educational technologies including resources for e-learning and social media. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in educational institutions and other agencies; it provides training in instructional design, multimedia development and management, and e-learning, and it builds a foundation for individuals planning to pursue doctoral degrees.

All students enter CSULB Dance in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance program, providing students with a balanced course of study that prepares them for careers in dance as performers, educators, arts administrators, health and fitness specialists, and/or graduate study in dance while providing opportunities for study in specific areas of personal interest.

The Communication Studies Department offers a Masters of Arts degree in Communication Studies. Our program provides students with advanced instruction in the major theories and research methods in the academic discipline of communication. Our graduates typically go on to doctoral programs or become communication instructors at the community college level. We provide students with a broad foundation in the discipline of communication. As such, we do not offer areas of specialty, but students can take a variety of elective courses.

The Master of Arts in Spanish from California State University, Long Beach opens doors for teachers, journalists, translators, writers, and other professionals seeking to demonstrate advanced knowledge of Spanish and Spanish-speaking cultures. The program has approximately 45 active students at any given time, a number that allows for individualized mentoring, advising, and intellectual engagement. Our graduates have become K-12 teachers, journalists, translators, interpreters, technical writers, community college instructors, lawyers, and PhD students. We offer an active program of intellectual and cultural events as well as opportunities for community and campus engagement. The Master of Arts Degree in Education, Option in Social and Cultural Analysis of Education (SCAE), focuses on the social and cultural analysis of education in urban and global contexts. Emphasizing critical approaches to education, including critical theory and critical pedagogy, the degree's interdisciplinary nature provides the intellectual rigor necessary for analyzing the relationship between education and society and effecting social and educational justice. SCAE courses examine education in its historical, social, and political contexts, and may be applied to all levels of education—locally, nationally, and internationally. In the SCAE program, education is conceived broadly to encompass K-12 and higher education, community-based education, adult education and other spaces in which people engage in teaching and learning.

History is a discipline at the core of the liberal arts tradition. It seeks to preserve, extend, and reevaluate our study of the past, and to connect it with the present. Students who specialize in History are typically those who plan to teach, practice law, or enter government service; but History students also go into business, librarianship, foundation work, management of local history projects, and fundraising. Some history alumni have become successful writers.
