The objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Program are to produce engineers who can innovate and advance in their chosen careers in industry, academia, and public institutions while making creative contributions to the field of electrical engineering.

Our graduates:

The bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is designed to prepare graduates for responsible engineering positions in design, development, research, applications, and operation in the fields of communications, control systems, robotics, digital signal processing systems, electromagnetics, digital and analog electronic circuits, physical electronics, computer-aided design and power systems. The curriculum is built around a strong basic core of mathematics, physics and engineering science. This is followed by intermediate courses in electrical engineering topics and finally a senior elective sequence including a senior design seminar and terminating in a capstone design course.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.

Nutrition is a potent modulator of the acute responses and chronic adaptations to exercise and training. The Master’s Program in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition allows students to study the interaction between nutrition and the physiology of exercise. Graduates will understand how to meet the nutritional needs of exercise, training, and conditioning to enhance human health, function, and performance as well as the underlying mechanisms at the molecular level to the whole body. The Physiology of Exercise and Sport (PEXS) Laboratory is operated by active researchers in the field and is equipped for gene and biochemical analysis as well as whole-body metabolics and athletic performance. From athletic performance to community nutrition, this degree prepares students to work with a wide variety of populations in a number of different settings using research-based curriculum, practical experiences, and original research. The Master’s Program in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition also equips students for advanced graduate work including doctoral degrees and clinical and medical training.

The Accelerated Full-time MBA (AMBA) program integrates Entrepreneurship and Innovation throughout the curriculum. It prepares you with the quantitative, analytical and creative skills that you need to start your career as an Entrepreneur (innovating by starting your business) and an Intrapreneur (innovating within an established company).

The BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science, offers a course of study combining dance with specific kinesiology and science courses for students interested in teaching careers in dance, dance medicine, careers in dance fitness, or graduate education in the areas of dance science or related dance studies. Students interested in the BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science should meet with Program Coordinator Brooke Winder no later than the start of their 2nd year (earlier for transfer students). Additionally, students must pass BIOL 207 , BIOL 208 , and DANC 260 with a minimum GPA of 2.25 to satisfy the major specific declaration requirements. The Bachelor of Arts program in Chinese Studies at CSULB is designed to provide students with linguistic and cultural preparation, supported by international perspectives and understanding of humanities for personal, socio-political, and literary-intellectual development, as well as for economic self-sufficiency in the ever-intertwining world of a global economy. The degree program is a major intended to educate and produce graduates who will have communicative proficiency, critical thinking skills, socio-cultural understanding, and literary sensibility for intercultural communication. The degree program will also provide students with opportunity and preparation to pursue a career involving the Pacific Rim nations, and go on to graduate, or on to professional programs in fields such as Art, International Affairs, Business Administration, History, Literature, Law, Journalism, Public Administration, or Education.

Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language” targets native speakers or near-native speakers of Chinese who would like to become a Chinese language instructor either in the United States or in China. By the end of their course work in this option, graduate students will be able to:

• Demonstrate a basic comparative understanding of China’s regional and international economic, cultural, or political influence. They will demonstrate this through projects in the core AST graduate level courses.
• Demonstrate their understanding of applied Chinese linguistics. They will demonstrate this through the development of course materials, lesson plans, teaching demonstrations and their culminating project.

This option is available in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. It was introduced in response to a certification process developed by the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). NCFR is the leading national organization for professionals concerned with promoting and enhancing the quality of family life. NCFR sponsors the only national program to certify family life educators.

The objectives of this option include: (1) to provide students with theoretical foundations for understanding how employees are motivated to accomplish organizational goals; (2) to develop skills to attract, reward, develop and retain human resources; (3) to develop an understanding of the strategic, theoretical, and practical approaches to human resource management; (4) to develop aspiring leaders with a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility and an awareness of how societal changes can foster organization change. Students are introduced to the HRM functional areas, including training, staffing, compensation/benefits, labor relations, and employment law, as well as softer skills such as leadership, managing workplace diversity, international HRM, conflict, and negotiations.

The HRM Advisory Board: The HRM program is supported by an extensive alumni network active in the HR profession in Southern California. The HRM Advisory Board, made up of some of the region’s top HR professionals, offers the program guidance and support. Board members actively work to fund scholarships, participate as guest speakers in classes, attend networking and student group events, and find career opportunities for students.
