The Rhetoric and Composition option is designed for students who desire to write for multiple readers and to analyze and interpret texts. This option prepares students for teaching on virtually all levels, for graduate study in English, and for professions that require intensive writing and communication skills.

This program prepares students to become professional nurses. Two distinct categories of students are eligible for admission: The “Basic” program student who enters the University without having completed a first level nursing program (diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing) and the “Registered Nurse” student who, having completed an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), desires further study to expand their nursing capabilities to the BSN professional level.

The “Basic” program student is eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to practice as a registered nurse (RN) upon completion of the program. All graduates are recommended for certification as a public health nurse in the State of California.

This is a comprehensive physics master’s degree with plans in General Physics or Computational Physics.

The MSCE Transportation Engineering/ Geotechnical Engineering specialization requires completion of 30 units of graduate courses, as specified below. Each student's program must satisfy all requirements of the university, college, and department, and contain the equivalent of 10 or more units of design, as determined by the department's graduate coordinator. During the first two weeks of the first semester as a CSULB graduate student, the student should make an appointment to meet with the graduate coordinator, who will assign him/her to an area advisor.

This degree major is designed for students pursuing careers that involve the study of life. This general option is designed to expose students to a wide range of biological topics and is the most flexible option in terms of courses required. With the right elective choices, this option can work for students planning on future careers in health professions or graduate and professional studies in Biological Sciences. Students may not combine this option with any other in the B.S. in Biology nor with the B.S. in Marine Biology or Microbiology as part of a dual major. This option requires approximately 78-82 units in the major, of which 37-39 are in lower division and 41-43 are in upper division.

The Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing is the recognized terminal degree which offers the minimum professional training deemed necessary by the major schools in the United States for university and college teaching and for positions in the publishing industry. It is also the degree most frequently held by professional writers.

The Accelerated Full-time MBA (AMBA) program integrates Entrepreneurship and Innovation throughout the curriculum. It prepares you with the quantitative, analytical and creative skills that you need to start your career as an Entrepreneur (innovating by starting your business) and an Intrapreneur (innovating within an established company).

Photography emphasizes fine art photography and its central position in contemporary art practice. The program is also invested in both traditional and digital photographic applications. Course offerings include such topics as advanced black-and-white printing, color photography, digital photography, studio practices, a theory and criticism seminar, and experimental approaches.

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program provides an intensive and fast-track 30-unit degree program to enable its cohort students to earn their graduate degree in 12 months. It is designed to help students identify and analyze various financial management issues to make optimal strategic decisions in today’s global economy. With its focus and alignment to the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) curriculum, the program offers students an excellent opportunity to learn practical investment skills and a comparative advantage to ultimately earn the CFA charter, while attaining a reputable MSF degree.

The Department of Journalism & Public Relations offers undergraduate programs that prepare students for careers in journalism, public relations and other media, editorial and storytelling related industries. Students take courses that provide both a strong theoretical foundation and real-life, hands-on training in the skills they need to pursue careers in mass communications. Public relations graduates become public relations professionals in corporations, nonprofit organizations, and communication firms and specialize in employee relations, media relations, community relations, multicultural relations, consumer relations, marketing communications, public affairs, and special event management. In their classes, public relations students learn how to use both traditional and digital forms of media, including social media, to communicate with target audiences. Advanced students become skilled in strategic planning and campaign development. The department offers two academic programs in public relations: A Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations (48 units) and a Minor in Public Relations (18 units).
