The objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Program are to produce engineers who can innovate and advance in their chosen careers in industry, academia, and public institutions while making creative contributions to the field of electrical engineering.

Our graduates:

The bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is designed to prepare graduates for responsible engineering positions in design, development, research, applications, and operation in the fields of communications, control systems, robotics, digital signal processing systems, electromagnetics, digital and analog electronic circuits, physical electronics, computer-aided design and power systems. The curriculum is built around a strong basic core of mathematics, physics and engineering science. This is followed by intermediate courses in electrical engineering topics and finally a senior elective sequence including a senior design seminar and terminating in a capstone design course.

Photography emphasizes fine art photography and its central position in contemporary art practice. The program is also invested in both traditional and digital photographic applications. Course offerings include such topics as advanced black-and-white printing, color photography, digital photography, studio practices, a theory and criticism seminar, and experimental approaches.

The Master of Arts in Education, Option in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education (30-33 units) is designed to foster the development of educators who are caring, effective, reflective, and committed to improving their schools. Coursework prepares teachers to apply theoretical insights and research findings to the practical problems they encounter in their work in curriculum and instruction.

Housed in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at California State Univeristy Long Beach (CSULB) and graduated its first cohort in 1988, the undergraduate Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) program has been a full certified member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) since 1996. Such certification demonstrates program excellence through a process of external peer review in which programs are examined to determine the quality of the curriculum, infrastructure, and outcomes.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) curriculum consists of 120 units of course work. The undergraduate program admits freshmen and transfer students with a significant number of community college credits. Interested students must first apply to the CSULB for admission and are encouraged to contact the CHHS advisors for advising before enrolling in courses.

The Communication Studies Department offers a Masters of Arts degree in Communication Studies. Our program provides students with advanced instruction in the major theories and research methods in the academic discipline of communication. Our graduates typically go on to doctoral programs or become communication instructors at the community college level. We provide students with a broad foundation in the discipline of communication. As such, we do not offer areas of specialty, but students can take a variety of elective courses.

The Master of Science in Mathematics program trains students in mathematical concepts independent of application outside mathematics. The degree is granted to students who complete 30 units of course work and either pass two comprehensive examinations or fulfill the thesis/project requirement.

The Bachelor of Arts program in Chinese Studies at CSULB is designed to provide students with linguistic and cultural preparation, supported by international perspectives and understanding of humanities for personal, socio-political, and literary-intellectual development, as well as for economic self-sufficiency in the ever-intertwining world of a global economy. The degree program is a major intended to educate and produce graduates who will have communicative proficiency, critical thinking skills, socio-cultural understanding, and literary sensibility for intercultural communication. The degree program will also provide students with opportunity and preparation to pursue a career involving the Pacific Rim nations, and go on to graduate, or on to professional programs in fields such as Art, International Affairs, Business Administration, History, Literature, Law, Journalism, Public Administration, or Education.

The mission of the graduate program in Computer engineering and Computer Science at CSULB is to provide a high-quality educational experience and the technical specialization required to become successful leaders in industry. The program also prepares the students to pursue advanced degrees if they so desire. The graduate program involves advanced courses in analysis and design in computer software and hardware. The students may choose to do a thesis or take a comprehensive examination as the culmination of their program.

The Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering (MSAE) program aims to provide students with advanced training in sub-disciplines of aerospace engineering that combines modern engineering practice and rigorous theoretical framework to enhance students’ pursuit of professional careers and doctoral studies. This program is designed to teach students to be linguists who can work with signed and spoken languages and their cultures. Students will be introduced to a variety of signed and spoken languages, and their cultures, in the United States and across the globe. Students will focus on acquisition of American Sign Language (ASL) and graduate with a fluid ability to understand and use the language and be culturally competent. The program is designed to also increase students’ competence in English. As linguists, the students will be able to apply their knowledge to any world language, to begin research on these languages, and to have the competence in linguistic analysis to judge and assess the quality of existing research in their field.
