The Master of Arts in Education, Option in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education (30-33 units) is designed to foster the development of educators who are caring, effective, reflective, and committed to improving their schools. Coursework prepares teachers to apply theoretical insights and research findings to the practical problems they encounter in their work in curriculum and instruction.

Graduates of HCA master’s degree programs will achieve competencies in the areas of (1) communications and relationship management, (2) leadership, (3) professionalism, (4) knowledge of health care environment, and (5) business skills and knowledge. These competencies are the main domains of the model based on the American College of Health Care Executives’ (ACHE) Competency Assessment Tool and Healthcare Leadership Alliance’s (HLA) Competency Directory.

The Program’s curriculum was designed, and has been revised over the years, to provide students with the health care management knowledge and skills necessary to meet the changing needs of the health care industry and to conform to academic accreditation criteria. HCA follows a generalist approach in the design of its program and admits students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Geography focuses on the spatial organization of human and physical landscapes, the interactions between human society and the physical environment, as well as on the meanings that people bring to their place in the world. Geography sits at the nexus of the social and physical sciences, drawing from a range of theoretical and methodological approaches for understanding the world around us.

History is a discipline at the core of the liberal arts tradition. It seeks to preserve, extend, and reevaluate our study of the past, and to connect it with the present. Students who specialize in History are typically those who plan to teach, practice law, or enter government service; but History students also go into business, librarianship, foundation work, management of local history projects, and fundraising. Some history alumni have become successful writers.

This degree major is designed for students pursuing careers that involve the study of life. This general option is designed to expose students to a wide range of biological topics and is the most flexible option in terms of courses required. With the right elective choices, this option can work for students planning on future careers in health professions or graduate and professional studies in Biological Sciences. Students may not combine this option with any other in the B.S. in Biology nor with the B.S. in Marine Biology or Microbiology as part of a dual major. This option requires approximately 78-82 units in the major, of which 37-39 are in lower division and 41-43 are in upper division.

Our faculty are often supported by external research grants, and publications share authorship with undergraduate and graduate students.

The department is housed in two state of the art buildings with a complete range of modern instrumental equipment that is used directly by students in pursuit of their training. Direct hands on use not only provides opportunities for answering research questions, but also provides the opportunity for advanced training with modern instrumentation.

This master's degree provides foundations and practical skills for individuals seeking career growth in educational, corporate, and public service settings that use educational technologies including resources for e-learning and social media. The program prepares graduates for leadership roles in educational institutions and other agencies; it provides training in instructional design, multimedia development and management, and e-learning, and it builds a foundation for individuals planning to pursue doctoral degrees.

The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management program is designed to provide its students with advanced and highly demanded training in modern supply chain management practices, analysis methods, technology applications, strategy development, and other relevant skills that will advance their career prospects and prepare them for lifelong learning in a global supply chain environment. The rigorous curriculum will equip its graduates with advanced knowledge and skills needed to identify, analyze, and resolve complex supply chain challenges faced by globalscale businesses. This is accomplished through a unique combination of quantitative, technical, operational, strategic, and behavioral preparation.

Fast Track Master of Science in Supply Chain Management

The Fast Track Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (MSSCM) program is available to promising students seeking a career in supply chain management. CSULB undergraduate supply chain management students may apply to the Fast Track MSSCM program as undergraduates. Students are eligible for the Fast Track MSSCM if they maintain a 3.0 Overall and Upper Division Major GPA. Students deemed eligible for the Fast Track MSSCM program may waive the GMAT/GRE test and additional application requirement. Please inquire with the Graduate Business Office for more information.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.

The Masters of Science in Gerontology Program provides a flexible interdisciplinary curriculum that gives new and seasoned professionals the competencies necessary for success in the field of aging. It provides experiential as well as didactic graduate education and professional training in gerontology for individuals planning to become professionals in public and private agencies. It provides field experiences to enhance understanding of concepts, themes, and skills related to aging at various life stages, within different gender and racial/ethnic groups and among people with various abilities. Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to plan, develop and implement innovative programs to meet the needs of the growing aging population locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally. Students are supported in exploring aging-related professional values and ethics.
