The Fitness option is designed for students interested in careers in the fitness industry, e.g. fitness director, manager, program specialist, coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer, or group instructor in corporate, commercial, YMCA, or other public or private facilities.

Department of Communication Studies provides students with a liberal arts education in communication arts and sciences with specialized training in communication skills and practices at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. Each student is required to consult with the department undergraduate or graduate advisor as appropriate for advisement.

What Do You Do with a Degree in Religious Studies?

kandinsky KW iAlmost anything! Religious Studies is one of the four best majors to help you score high on the L.S.A.T. (Law School Admissions Test). Our students go on to other advanced degrees, become religious professionals, secondary and higher education teachers, librarians, educational entrepreneurs, managers or aid-workers in NGOs, writers or performance artists, business managers, and the like. William Bao Bean, an American venture capitalist in Asia, tells us that he only supports the ventures of Humanities majors because they have the critical and innovative mindset to be successful.

The School Health Option is designed for persons who wish to become health science teachers in California middle and high schools. The program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and meets subject matter competence requirements for the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Health Science. Prospective students should consult the department’s Health Science Single Subject Advisor early to plan their program.

The objective of the international business option is to prepare students for the increasingly competitive and interdependent international business world with which they must cope. There is great and growing need for American business school graduates to be better informed about how to compete and do business outside the U. S. as well as in the U. S. market where much of their competition is from foreign firms. Students need to understand how international business practices and customs differ from those in the U. S. They need at least some familiarity with a language other than English as well as with cultural diversity and world geography.

Graduates of HCA master’s degree programs will achieve competencies in the areas of (1) communications and relationship management, (2) leadership, (3) professionalism, (4) knowledge of health care environment, and (5) business skills and knowledge. These competencies are the main domains of the model based on the American College of Health Care Executives’ (ACHE) Competency Assessment Tool and Healthcare Leadership Alliance’s (HLA) Competency Directory.

The Program’s curriculum was designed, and has been revised over the years, to provide students with the health care management knowledge and skills necessary to meet the changing needs of the health care industry and to conform to academic accreditation criteria. HCA follows a generalist approach in the design of its program and admits students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The Printmaking program incorporates a number of historical media including etching, lithography, relief printing, monotype, and screen printing while expanding upon emerging photographic and digital processes. Emphasis is placed on both unique/individual images and the multiple.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Asian Studies provides a comparative understanding of the cultural, economic, and socio-political significance of Asia in the 21st century. It requires competency in one or more Asian languages. To achieve this, MA students are encouraged to study abroad for part of their course work. Graduates from the MA program in Asian Studies can expect to be much more competitive for positions in the Foreign Service, State Department, K-12 and community college education and administration, international finance and industry, non-governmental organizations, academic publishing, professional translation work, and Ph.D. programs in Chinese, Japanese, or Asian Studies.

This option is designed to provide the student with curriculum activities that combine one or more option areas into a program of study. This option is developed by the student with the advisement of a graduate faculty member and/or the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. A statement of rationale for the proposal must accompany the program of study.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.
