Department of Communication Studies provides students with a liberal arts education in communication arts and sciences with specialized training in communication skills and practices at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. The Master of Science in Marketing Analytics program provides students with advanced and highly demanded training in digital marketing tools, marketing research and analytical skills, and other relevant quantitative marketing skills ranging from customer/sales big data analysis, digital marketing management, sales force management strategies, customer relationship management (CRM), new product development, and brand management.

The Printmaking program incorporates a number of historical media including etching, lithography, relief printing, monotype, and screen printing while expanding upon emerging photographic and digital processes. Emphasis is placed on both unique/individual images and the multiple.

This program prepares students to become professional nurses. Two distinct categories of students are eligible for admission: The “Basic” program student who enters the University without having completed a first level nursing program (diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing) and the “Registered Nurse” student who, having completed an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), desires further study to expand their nursing capabilities to the BSN professional level.

The “Basic” program student is eligible to take the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to practice as a registered nurse (RN) upon completion of the program. All graduates are recommended for certification as a public health nurse in the State of California.

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts provides the opportunity for the student to gain a broad exposure to the discipline. The curriculum requires study in Acting, Technical and Design Crafts, the History, Literature and Criticism of Theatre, and Directing. After completion of the lower division core students may choose to audition/interview for placement in the performance or design options.

The Master of Arts in International Affairs (MAIA) Professional Program at California State University, Long Beach is designed to prepare leaders for a changing world by providing the skills that employers demand for the global workforce of the 21st century. This 18-month program includes 12 months in residence, followed by a carefully placed internship with courses taken in residence or online. Graduates become prepared for careers in areas such as International Development & Relief, Migration Advocacy, International Non-Profit Management, International Business, and Trade Policy.

The MAIA program identifies and develops the professional skills necessary for a successful international career in the public, private, or nonprofit sectors—both at home and abroad. The core elements of the program include methodological skills, functional competence, and foreign language knowledge with a multidisciplinary approach. The curriculum applies prevalent theory to real-world situations, while developing tools for project development and problem resolution.

Asian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that offers three concentrations: Asia Area Studies; Asia and Business; Asia and Globalization. All of these concentrations share a common core. Beyond the common core requirements, students select elective courses from one of the three concentrations to complete their 39 unit requirement for the major. Regular consultation with an advisor is highly recommended. Because of the importance of statistics to this discipline, students are advised to include STAT 108 among their GE courses. A “C” grade in all required and elective classes in the major is required for continuation of the program. It is also suggested that students take AST 320 or AST 336 for their required Upper Division WI Capstone course. The Bachelor of Arts degree is appropriate for those preparing for teaching careers in the physical sciences at the secondary level, as well as those whose goal is a liberal art education with an emphasis on physics, or engineers interested in a double major.

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms and their interactions with humans, other organisms, and the environment. This degree is appropriate for those contemplating graduate work in microbiology or, with the inclusion of appropriate classes, may be utilized by pre-professional students.
