Bachelor of Arts in Art with Emphasis in Visual Arts

This major is designed to make you a canny navigator of our media-saturated environment. In addition to probing the historical origins of our present visual climate, you will investigate the latest trends in critical theory and develop strong research and writing skills. The Art History program at SPU has a modern and contemporary focus, and encourages hands-on engagement with mounting, curating, and reviewing gallery shows. The philosophical cornerstone of our curriculum is our belief in a common humanity; we look for wisdom in even the most distant past and cultivate sympathy with the strange and unfamiliar. An optional biennial study-abroad program to Rome, Italy, will help you both absorb and critique the foundations of Western culture.

Choosing to major in Theatre with a Performance emphasis offers you many benefits, including the following:

• You will be prepared for dramatic performance as an actor, director, or other performing artist through intensive work in sensory awareness, observation skills, and selective imagination.
• You will grow in your mastery of stage movement through work in physical flexibility, balancing, circus techniques, hand-to-hand combat, and use of theatrical masks for performance.
• You will develop vocal skills of support, projection, and articulation.
• Through your studies and your participation in theatre productions, you will be exposed to a wide range of theatrical forms and styles.

As a Bachelor of Arts in Life Sciences major, you have the option of focusing on a specific area of biology (such as physiology, organismal biology, or ecology), or exposing yourself to a broad range of courses.  This flexibility will allow you to complement a second major or diverse career options with a solid foundation in the biological sciences.

The BS in Psychology is designed for students that are passionate about integrating psychology and natural sciences with the goal of pursuing careers or graduate programs such as but not limited to clinical psychology, behavioral or cognitive neuroscience, and animal behavior.

The BS program also prepares students for further study or employment in fields such as behavioral neurobiology, health psychology, and behavioral medicine.

Animal Behavior: Through a biological and psychological perspective on behavior,this track is designed for students  interested in jobs or graduate programs researching animal behavior.

Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience: Provides students with the knowledge and skills for graduate work or jobs in the research or application of neuroscience and neuropsychology.

The Master of Arts in Theology degree program focuses on the classical theological disciplines of Scripture, church history, theology, and ethics, and reflects Seattle Pacific University’s vision to engage the culture and change the world with the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. The Theological Integration concentration combines rigorous study in the classical theological disciplines with an interdisciplinary focus. You will be prepared to serve in diverse settings and equipped to live a more integrated life of faith and mission as an administrator, manager, or marketplace or Christian organization professional.

An MS in Information Systems from Seattle Pacific bridges the gap between business and technology, preparing students for leadership at the intersection of technology and business. With the STEM designated MS-IS program, leaders are developed with the management, technology, and problem-solving skills they need to handle complex, globally integrated systems.

Through the applied, experiential, and collaborative-based curriculum at Seattle Pacific’s School of Business, Government, and Economics, students gain purpose-driven leadership skills. They also discover how IT, business principles, and ethical practice untie to lay a foundation to complex, globally integrated systems and service to others as an IT security professional, data analyst, project manager, information manager, or CIO.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science Psychology majors are rigorous yet flexible programs designed to meet the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology major while also fulfilling SPU’s mission to provide students with a transformative and holistic experience grounded in Christian faith.

As such, these programs prepare you with extensive knowledge of the field; scientific and critical thinking skills; an awareness of diversity, ethics in practice, and social responsibility; effective oral and written communication skills; and professional-level training and experiences (e.g., research and internship opportunities) for both careers and graduate school in psychology.

Psychology (BA)

The BA in Psychology is designed for students with a broad range of career and graduate school interests such as, but not limited to, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, school counseling, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Sports Psychology: For students interested in working with athletes or teams, this track focuses on sports psychology; it is designed for students hoping to pursue a job or graduate work in a related area.

As an Illustration major, students are trained in a variety of digital and traditional mediums, with an emphasis on building strong practical skills that can be applied in diverse ways. 

After mastering the foundation level curriculum including painting and figure drawing, students may choose to create coursework that emphasizes Illustration for Publishing, Illustration for Entertainment Design, Illustration for Surface Design, Motion design and Illustrative Fine Art.
