The interdisciplinary Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) major is a unique program which prepares students for leadership in many areas of public service and private enterprise.

Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (PPE) Major

PPE is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program that combines studies in political science, philosophy, and economics.  Modeled after a program at Oxford University, PPE core classes study human values, cultural institutions, and economics in order to develop multiperspectival solutions to pressing social problems. PPE students will also choose an area of emphasis from the following tracks: Applied Economics, Financial Economics, International Affairs, Law, Philosophy, Public Administration, and Social Enterprise.

The Philosophy track will open your eyes to the world of contemporary metaphysics, epistemology, and logic.

A bachelor of science degree in Biology prepares you for graduate studies or a professional career in biology. SPU’s Biology program emphasizes undergraduate research, which will give you a competitive edge. You may choose core and elective courses focused on botany, cellular and molecular biology, ecology, marine biology, physiology, or zoology, depending upon your interests and professional goals.

Biology Major
As a Bachelor of Science in Biology major, you’ll focus on understanding humans, animals, and plants from a biological perspective. You’ll gain a solid foundation in research methodology while increasing your knowledge of the physiology, anthropology, and development of the life all around us.

 The Film Studies major prepares you to become a creative and informed writer, audience member, and practitioner of film, through a deeper understanding of film art, history, aesthetics, criticism, and production.

About the Film Studies major

You will develop skills that are at the heart of a liberal arts education, including writing, critical thinking, and problem solving. The major provides an array of course offerings informed by a Christian perspective, with the aim of graduating students of competence and character who are prepared for professional careers, advanced study, and service. Primary goals include:

• Cinema literacy: You will practice critical media literacy within the contexts of American and International cinemas.
• Historical literacy: You will understand the formation of the American film industry and the pivotal roles movies have played in shaping American and International cultures.
• Creative practice: This major prepares a generation of film critics, audiences, and professional.

Develop research, statistics, and grant-writing knowledge and skills in this Master of Science (MS) in Research Psychology program. This master’s degree lets you work closely with faculty in the classroom and lab while also benefiting from the many opportunities and resources in the Seattle area. The BA in in Human Development and Family Studies offers an interdisciplinary approach to individual and family development across the lifespan, providing opportunities for you to study how people develop physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially within the context of the family and society.

It is a versatile undergraduate degree for anyone who is intrigued by human nature and the forces that help shape it. As a graduate, you will be prepared to work with people in a variety of roles, including social and family services, teaching and education, advocacy and non-profit work, and business and health related careers.

More than 220 million people on five continents speak French, making it the second most widely learned foreign language after English. If you’re interested in the visual arts, travel, or the global job market, studying French and French culture may be for you.

French is a primary language in parts of Western Europe, North and West Africa, the Caribbean, and Quebec. French is also an official language used in many international organizations including the United Nations, the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, the International Olympic Committee, and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).

If you’re interested in international relief work, international business, or international political affairs, French is an ideal language for you to study at Seattle Pacific University.

As a student in the Economics major in the School of Business, Government, and Economics at SPU, you will study many vital issues that affect human flourishing while emphasizing a Christian perspective on individual and society's decisions about how to organize the production and distribution of goods and services.

About the Economics Major

Economics is the study of human decision making, interconnectedness, and the distribution and allocation of scarce resources. This major emphasizes development and financial economics, with a focus on decision making, resource stewardship, and public policy.

Our program prepares students with industry experience through our SBGE internship program. Our students have held internships at leading local businesses and industries such as Safeco, Morgan Stanley, Starbucks, and Nordstrom.

Students pursuing graduate study are encouraged to complete our 15 credit calculus series. Our graduates have gone on to study at top institutions such as Notre Dame, Baylor, and the University of Washington.

A Public Policy concentration prepares you to pursue work and/or further studies in public administration, global development, and politics.

The Christians Traditions concentration of the MA-THEO Degree is designed to expand your knowledge of the Church’s global heritage from the era of the New Testament to the present. You will discover the amazing breadth and depth of God’s redemptive work through time and throughout the world, as well as the ways in which the people of God have sometimes failed to live up to Jesus’ command to love one another

To prepare interior design students to succeed, the courses in the Interior Design major encompass knowledge and skills in such areas as elements and principles of design, space planning, architectural drafting by hand and computer, art and design history, universal design (design for a range of ages and abilities), interior finishes and materials, and sustainable, resilient design.

As part of a program within a university committed to changing the world, the interior design faculty place strong emphasis on areas of universal and environmentally responsible design, incorporating their principles into projects in multiple courses.
