Master of Arts in Anthropology - Non-Thesis Option

at EDUCO - The University of Tulsa USA

Overview

A wide range of theoretical approaches using various methodologies derived from evolutionary and ecological theory and empirical methodology are used in the graduate level curriculum. Specific areas of emphasis include anthropogenic effects on the environment, modeling human-environmental interactions and body/mind connections in contemporary health and religious practices.

The Master of Arts program has an established reputation, as evidenced by a high rate of placement of its graduates. Extensive collections, research opportunities and internships are also available with Gilcrease Museum. Over 75 percent of those who have earned a degree currently hold anthropological or archaeological positions. The rapidly growing doctoral program in archaeology, established in 2012, provides thorough training in both theoretical and applied aspects of the field.

The program builds a foundation for the application of anthropological theory and method to a variety of real world problems and ensures that all students learn strong basic research skills. We offer state-of-the-art labs, which allow us to combine experimental archaeological analyses with extensive fieldwork worldwide.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Russell School of Chemical Engineering, a small, yet comprehensive department, has offered a master’s degree program since 1939 and a doctoral degree program since 1966. The school has established a strong tradition in the petroleum, natural gas, and environmental fields, and offers research opportunities in materials engineering, biochemical engineering, advanced modeling and simulation, alternative energy, surface science, and catalysis.

Our current research focuses on modern experimental approaches and state-of-the-art computational studies, allowing for investigation of fundamental phenomena as applied to “real-world” problems and thereby enhancing our interactions with industry. Our computational studies address a wide range of complex problems in multiple time and length scales, ranging from multiphase flow models to complete energy supply chains, which help catalyze solutions to complex societal challenges. Chemical engineering graduate studies offer a dynamic environment for challenging, stimulating research and provide close interaction between faculty and students due to our small size.

Clinical psychology course work includes formal course work in the core areas of psychology, research methods, personality and psychopathology, principles of psychological assessment and intervention and professional issues in clinical psychology. The program trains students to do what psychologists actually do in today’s society: ethically apply knowledge of psychological theory, assessment, research methodology and clinical skill to complex clinical problems.

Our programs are based upon the scientist-practitioner model: we define psychological practice as the application of the theory, methods and results of scientific psychology to clinical problems. Licensing laws of states vary widely, and students should consult the licensing body in the state in which they intend to practice to determine opportunities and requirements for licensure at the master’s level.
