The Atmospheric Physics (ATPH) graduate program aims to educate future leaders in the physical and Earth sciences. The Master of Professional Studies in Software Engineering is a ten-course program designed for professionals interested in developing software at all levels. 

In this interdisciplinary graduate program, students will gain both comprehensive software engineering knowledge and skills, in addition to increased exposure to coursework in leadership, communications, management, and ethics.  The MPS degree provides hands-on applied experience, real-world application of relevant concepts, mentorship, and industry connections.

• Students will learn modern approaches to software development: requirements analysis, system design techniques, formal specification techniques, implementation, testing, debugging, metrics, human factors, quality assurance, cost estimation, maintenance, and tools.
• Students will be introduced to, and gain firsthand experience on, the fundamentals of software testing and the main phases in the software development process.
• Students will gain experience working on hands-on programming projects that prepare students to work in co-located or geographically distributed software development team environments

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers courses of study leading to M.S. The department offers an Accelerated Program for students who wish to combine their undergraduate studies with a master’s degree and thesis. Graduate certificates in Mechatronics and in Computational Thermal/Fluid Dynamics consist of a sequence of four graduate courses in a specific technical area. Credits from a graduate certificate apply to the M.S. degree program.

The MPS is designed to prepare computer science, information systems, and other technical professionals to fill management and leadership roles in cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary degree program gives security professionals the range of knowledge and skills needed to be successful as managers in the emerging field of cybersecurity. Coursework includes a blend of management/legal/business courses with more technically focused courses.

UMBC’s Master’s in Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Industrial /Organizational Psychology explores and integrates important topics such as human resource practice, organizational behavioral management, human factors and culminates with a professional capstone experience. The graduate programs in biological sciences are designed to offer a broad, multi-disciplinary, modern education in the life sciences coupled with the development of in-depth expertise and research training within a specialized area.

An individual plan of graduate study in chemical engineering compatible with the student’s interest and background is offered.
