An individual plan of graduate study in chemical engineering compatible with the student’s interest and background is offered. The primary emphasis of the program’s research activities is biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Cross-discipline thesis research projects in these areas are encouraged.

Human-Centered Computing is the discipline that explores human interaction with information technologies and the use of these technologies to improve lives. The program focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of interactive information technology systems that are both usable and accessible.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers courses of study leading to M.S. The department offers an Accelerated Program for students who wish to combine their undergraduate studies with a master’s degree and thesis. Graduate certificates in Mechatronics and in Computational Thermal/Fluid Dynamics consist of a sequence of four graduate courses in a specific technical area. Credits from a graduate certificate apply to the M.S. degree program.

The M.S. program in Applied Molecular Biology (APMB) is an intensive, two semester graduate program that combines state-of-the-art training in the laboratory methods of molecular biology with a set of four lecture courses that provide the theoretical background for the field.

The Master of Arts program in Historical Studies is designed to accommodate a variety of interests and career paths that connect individuals to a deeper knowledge of history. The diverse curriculum meets the needs of students wanting to enter the growing field of Public History, teach at the K-12 level, and those seeking to go on for a doctorate in history and an academic career. The program emphasizes academic and professional training in historiography, historical methods and theory, and current conceptual tools and techniques for organizing and presenting historical evidence.

The Master of Science in Engineering Management focuses on advanced engineering developments and the management of enterprises and government programs specializing in engineering activities. The aim of the M.S. in Engineering Management is to provide students with a basic and focused set of advanced business/management skills coupled with advanced skills in a specific technical area commensurate with students’ interests and likely technical employment.

The MPS program prepares working professionals in both small and large organizations who have an interest in incorporating entrepreneurial thinking and innovative practices into their workplace or community. The program will also be of great value to those with an interest in starting their own company or driving social change through innovation. Core courses will provide students with an understanding of the fundamental building blocks for driving innovation.

Beyond the core courses, three pathways will allow students to specialize in one of three areas: social entrepreneur, technical entrepreneur and intra entrepreneur.

The graduate program in Computer Science provides advanced instruction and training and research opportunities to prepare students for careers in business, industry, academia and government agencies. The program reflects state-of-the-art knowledge in major theoretical and applied aspects of computation.

The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering offers a graduate program leading to the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. The diversity of course offerings and research interests within the department and interactions with the medical and dental schools at UMB, the mathematics and physics departments at UMBC and the electrical engineering department at University of Maryland, College Park, encompass a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary or strictly electrical engineering instruction and research topics.
