The graduate program in Computer Science provides advanced instruction and training and research opportunities to prepare students for careers in business, industry, academia and government agencies. The program reflects state-of-the-art knowledge in major theoretical and applied aspects of computation.

UMBC’s Biotechnology curriculum is intended to address changes in the needs of the biotechnology industry through experiential learning. The curriculum provides advanced instruction in the life sciences, along with coursework in regulatory affairs, leadership, management, and financial management in a life science-oriented business.

The MPS is designed to prepare computer science, information systems, and other technical professionals to fill management and leadership roles in cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary degree program gives security professionals the range of knowledge and skills needed to be successful as managers in the emerging field of cybersecurity. Coursework includes a blend of management/legal/business courses with more technically focused courses.

The graduate program in Intercultural Communication allows students to develop advanced foreign language proficiency, to train them to function comfortably and effectively in intercultural situations, and to prepare them for specific career goals through individual courses of study and internships. Students and faculty come from various parts of the world, and participation in the program is itself a significant intercultural experience.

The Master of Science in Engineering Management focuses on advanced engineering developments and the management of enterprises and government programs specializing in engineering activities. The aim of the M.S. in Engineering Management is to provide students with a basic and focused set of advanced business/management skills coupled with advanced skills in a specific technical area commensurate with students’ interests and likely technical employment.

The interdisciplinary Public Policy program, which offers both a master’s and doctoral degree, is designed for highly motivated individuals who wish to pursue advanced graduate studies in public policy and public policy analysis. The student body includes both full-time and part-time students. Most of the courses are offered in the evening to permit students who work to pursue their degrees.

The goal of the program prepares students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds for careers in data science. In the core courses, students will receive a fundamental understanding of data science through classes that highlight machine learning, data analysis and data management. The core courses will also introduce students to ethical and legal implications surrounding data science.

Beyond the core courses, students will take three courses in domain specific pathways developed in collaboration with academic departments across the university. Through these pathways, students will be able to utilize the skills and techniques learned in the core courses within their own field or area of expertise.

The graduate programs at the Erickson School of Aging Studies provide integrated, interdisciplinary professional training for leaders in the growing longevity economy. Graduates will meet a growing workforce need for leaders with professional education to serve in management positions in public, private, and non-profit/advocacy organizations providing services to older adults.

The Erickson School of Aging Studies’ goal is to prepare graduates to apply this integrated perspective in leadership positions in a broad array of aging services organizations from government agencies/organizations and advocacy/non-profit groups to a variety of positions in the for-profit business arena.

UMBC’s Master’s in Professional Studies (M.P.S.): Industrial /Organizational Psychology explores and integrates important topics such as human resource practice, organizational behavioral management, human factors and culminates with a professional capstone experience. Understanding the importance of communication, presentation and critical thinking skills, UMBC’s M.P.S.: Industrial/Organizational Psychology covers the essential techniques and skills necessary for success in this field. Our program enables students to develop a professional portfolio while building strong relationships with faculty practitioners and industry professionals. Based in Rockville, Maryland, at the Universities at Shady Grove, the program offers evening, weekend, and select online courses for busy professionals.

The Department of Emergency Health Services at UMBC offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree. This degree is also a core component of the UMB-UMBC post-residency fellowship in emergency medical services and incorporates offerings from several university departments at both UMBC and UMB.
